I somehow keep meeting new Vols fans in Atlanta. Just met a lady who graduated in 1977. I asked her if she’s watched any games this year and she replied: “What’s the point of watching UT football anymore? They aren’t any good and haven’t been for a long time.”

I hear that sentiment a lot.

AD needs to nail this hire.

Tennessee considering all our recourses that could be utilized... should be able to conveince Mullen/ Outbid MSU or out bid Nebraska for Frost. If both turn us down that tells me we’re not putting all our chips on the table.

I would have to think if they offered Gruden a Saban like deal they'll be willing to pay the money to get Mullen or Frost.

He's one of the top offensive minds in the game. Put up 800 yards of offense and 70 points last week. Yeah he's had a heck of a checkered past but I do think if given another chance at this level he would do well. I wouldn't hire him, but I will admit that he's a good coach. Very good recruiter as well and would bring a top staff with him at his next stop. He also has his team in position to win their conference in his first year.
Yeah. That big recruiting class of his here worked out so well for us. Not no, but hell no.

Why? What if there were internal reasons to keep butch a little longer? What if there were not any good solutions as to who would lead the Vols in the interim?

Butch agreed to resignation.
We have our guy, but his other obligations require it to not be announced.
Although the play is a distraction this gives them "quiet" time to focus on negotiations.

While all of this may not be accurate it is literally the only logical explanation considering unanimous agreement that Butch is done.

Not a single coach in any sport at the college or pro level would kick one of their best players off the team for flipping the bird to a hostile crowd.

Yep. How much time did Scarborough miss last year for putting his hand in one our fan's face?

Our analysis is congruent.

UCLA and Ole Miss losses were bad, I'll give you that. That Ole Miss team wasn't bad though. They finished in the top 25 and won the Cotton Bowl. He whipped Richt and Spurrier and lost to a really good Virginia Tech team. That Tennessee team was not that talented, but they did have a few good pieces. Did an exceptional job turning Crompton around, and we ran the ball well with an offensive line with the Sullins twins starting. He also had a top 5 recruiting class coming in that year. I might add that he was a blocked kick away from beating Alabama as well.

I've already mentioned it but that recruiting class did not work out that well.

I know the guy has a national championship to his credit and maybe I'm crazy for thinking this, but I would prefer Mullen or Frost over him.

Jimbo is the closest thing a sure thing you can find. Even more than Gruden. We would be in Atlanta virtually every year I would I think.

Guy signed two top five recruiting classes at USC with major scholarship restrictions. Had a top 5 class ready to come here before he bolted. Has FAU in position to sign their highest rated class in that program's history as well. I don't think recruiting would be much of a question with him. Like I've said, I wouldn't hire him here, but I'm just saying I think he would do well if given another shot somwhere at this level.

Kiffin will do well, he needs to hire someone to run the defense like Fuente/Bud Foster so he can just recruit and call plays.

My gut tells me he will be at Arkansas next year.

Not a fan of Jimbo. If he can't have sustained success at FL State, don't see him having it here. His stock is taking a bit of a dive at the present IMO.

I agree. He did get Tyler Bray in here though. A few guys he had committed later decommitted after he left though if I recall correctly. Demarco Cobbs is the one who sticks out to me. Also would have signed Markeith Ambles I think.

I said something similar about Jimbo Fisher.
" but he lost his starting QB"
Yet we can lose 7 starters at one time and it's "no excuses". I'm not actually downing those coaches and definitely not supporting Jones, I just don't get the double standard.

I think the deal with Butch is he loses a lot of starters every year to major injuries. Something isn't right about it. He has the injury excuse every year it seems like.

Would be a great hire IMO. Would automatically be the best coach in the east and probably the second best in the conference.

Two freakin wins! And WE’RE the “joke of college football”?

He’s a real football coach. Would hire a great staff. Knows the south. Proven recruiter. Experience at a big time program.

Also, one thing I always think about is the fact that almost every coach starts having trouble sustaining success at the same place beyond 8-10 years.

Saban is the exception. Everyone else seems to have a window to work in and then it’s probably best to get out and reset.
