Gotcha. Just don't remember it being a big thing when I was in school, unless it was a good opponent. I think Miami was the homecoming game in 2002. That may have been the only one.

It's more for alums than students. Basically a party weekend-- football is only a small part of it and this year, less than small.

If Frost is named the Florida coach while Butch is still employed here, there will be no words for the expression on my face

I’ll seriously have to drop this football obsession

You can be convinced, but your still taking what he's done at UCF and projecting it here. I think he would do a really good job here, but there's still an amount of hope involved with anyone that hasn't been a highly successfully P5 head coach.

100%

There isn’t definitive proof for anything. My projection, I accept that, and it reflects in my posts

Agree but Frost has a higher potential. Mullen is a 9-10 win coach on a normal year here. Frost is kinda unknown but I think his potential could be 11+ win coach imo

I get the idea that Frost is maybe the higher upside guy, but if we land someone who has a baseline of 9-3 seasons and an appearance in Atlanta every 3 years or so, that's a GREAT hire.

Unless Saban decides he wants to come to Knoxville and be our coach, I don't think anybody would win 10 or 11 games every year here. There are maybe 5-6 coaches in all of CFB who are capable of that and all of those guys are set at their current schools.

After a day full of plenty of rumblings, all signs point to things being status quo for the Vol football program heading into Southern Mississippi game week.

Head coach Butch Jones is slated to met the media at noon for his regularly scheduled game week press conference.

There was no team meeting Sunday night and there were no spoken words to the media from Athletics Director John Currie. We did officially request a statement from Currie Saturday night after the Vols loss to Kentucky, but he elected not to comment.

Currie did meet with Jones on Sunday afternoon as he has done for weeks. After a delay in starting a staff meeting, Tennessee did begin their game week preparations Southern Miss with Sunday meetings.

Multiple sources tell Volquest that the plan is for Jones to patrol the sidelines Saturday night in the Vols homecoming game.

I agree. People have false expectations. Nobody is winning 11+ a year other than Bama. It’s just abnormal. Harbough was thought to be the best of all hires and the guy still hasn’t won his division. No coach is going to come in here and win 11 a year. Now, some coaches ceiling could be a national championship and floor 8-9 wins but 11-12 year after year isn’t realistic. In comparison butch’s ceiling is 8 a year. We are about to see the floor.

If I had to choose right now it would be Gruden.

He is the one they are persuing right now with everything they got.

To be clear I am not saying this WILL happen. Just fgun to my head guess as this is who we are pushing for now.

Realistically it would say Frost.

But the crazy train is fast approaching.

Do you know if OldVol in the football forum is legit? Pretty sure he's hinting at Jones being officially fired tomorrow and Gruden being announced on Tuesday.

Looking like we might be competing with UF for Frost. Maybe the way they've handled the firing of Mcelwain will be a turn off for him. If not, I would lean towards him wanting that job over Tennessee. If we lose out on Frost, we better hope we can pull Mullen. If we can't do that, it's gonna get squirrelly.

I think Mullen will be a hard pull. His agent will leverage interest for an extension and raise that could put him over $5M plus escalators. He's getting rich at a school with manageable expectations and less pressure than other SEC schools.

I’ve heard this, but what makes everyone so confident that Frost’s ceiling is so high? I think he’s a good coach still.

It’s not like we haven’t seen UCF have this kind of success multiple times over the past decade. It’s not a hard place to win games.

Being around so many coaching legends does it for more.

Good point but last time they had a first round QB in Bortles and the 2 other times they were good but nothing special.

Brace yourself

Not good enough for some people on here, but Florida is willing to fire McElwain in the middle of the season to jump on the train before anybody else has a chance.

Timing is overblown IMO. No way Frost jumps on the FL offer without even considering others. It would kill his negotiation leverage. He'll be collecting all the big offers he can regardless of when their coaches were fired. We'll have the same chance we would have had if we'd pulled the trigger first. Maybe a better chance since their AD looks like he won't give a coach any leash.

Understood. I may not necessarily agree but can see where you’re coming from.

I think Frost would be successful here if given the chance, but to say it wouldn’t be based on hope and lots of risk is inaccurate. Still very green and hasn’t proven all that much in my eyes just yet.

I would definitely be happy with Mullen

You think MSU is able/willing to go that high? If so he's probably not going anywhere.

I wonder if Tennessee would get to the 6 million a year mark with him? MSU can't win a bidding war with UT IMO. Just not sure we're going to value him at that kind of money. Maybe Mullen could be sold on actually winning championships here. He can't do that at MSU and he probably knows that.

I am a big fan of Mullen but my positive feeling toward him will take a hit if he isn't pursued at Florida because he former Ad is there. If he doesn't go after him hard that will tell me he doesn't think he is ready to lead a top 10 program.
