Also, it's going to require some luck, but UCF has an outside shot at the playoff.

I'm not so sure Frost wants to bail or bring that onto his team before season's end.

Understood. I may not necessarily agree but can see where you’re coming from.

I think Frost would be successful here if given the chance, but to say it wouldn’t be based on hope and lots of risk is inaccurate. Still very green and hasn’t proven all that much in my eyes just yet.

I agreed with your original post saying Frost is more based on hope than Mullen. Just added I think Frost has higher potential 👍

I wonder if Tennessee would get to the 6 million a year mark with him? MSU can't win a bidding war with UT IMO. Just not sure we're going to value him at that kind of money. Maybe Mullen could be sold on actually winning championships here. He can't do that at MSU and he probably knows that.

Yep comes down to his priorities. Don't know if we'd go $6+ million for him.

I agree. People have false expectations. Nobody is winning 11+ a year other than Bama. It’s just abnormal. Harbough was thought to be the best of all hires and the guy still hasn’t won his division. No coach is going to come in here and win 11 a year. Now, some coaches ceiling could be a national championship and floor 8-9 wins but 11-12 year after year isn’t realistic. In comparison butch’s ceiling is 8 a year. We are about to see the floor.

I agree. I can understand why some people wouldn't be thrilled with Mullen. But I think he'd set a baseline around 8-9 wins a year (regular season) and, when/if he gets his hands on the right QB, have some seasons with 11 wins is a possibility. He won 10 games at MSU not too long ago. It's not like he wouldn't be able to do the same or better here.

If we could manage to snag the right DC to pair him with, I think we'd have a fun team to watch.

You think MSU is able/willing to go that high? If so he's probably not going anywhere.

IIRC, he's making $4.5M base plus bonuses now. I'm sure Sexton will leverage that upward, given the number of SEC coaching jobs that will be open this year.

If we can't get Frost, I'd pay Mullen 6 million before I would hire a Norvell, Brohm, or Durkin for 3. I'd be willing to overpay a guy a little bit if I knew he'd win 9 or 10 most years, which I think Mullen could do.

Timing is overblown IMO. No way Frost jumps on the FL offer without even considering others. It would kill his negotiation leverage. He'll be collecting all the big offers he can regardless of when their coaches were fired. We'll have the same chance we would have had if we'd pulled the trigger first. Maybe a better chance since their AD looks like he won't give a coach any leash.

Frost is going to stay focused on letting this season play out, IMO. If both UCF and USF run the table, the winner of that game will have an outside shot at the playoffs (longshot, I know) and a shoe in for a NY6 game. He's not gonna get too distracted from their season just yet.

You realize USF lost yesterday?

I am a big fan of Mullen but my positive feeling toward him will take a hit if he isn't pursued at Florida because he former Ad is there. If he doesn't go after him hard that will tell me he doesn't think he is ready to lead a top 10 program.

Jmo

Somewhat agree. But there's alway the possibility that Strickland already knows whether Mullen would be interested or not. If he didn't go after Mullen, that might be one reason.

Total speculation though.

Good point. He'll probably have job offers on the back burner for awhile.

Did not see that lol but thanks for the update. UCF/USF game still is a big one then, but not nearly as big as it would have been if they were both undefeated.

USF having lost kind of makes that game a must win for UCF if they want to make a NY6 bowl game or have a (admittedly slim) chance at the playoff.

Frost = Satterfield = Norvell = Campbell. All the same currently. I know many here look at Frost’s pictures and his recent record, but many of the same posters thought hiring the tight end coach for OC was a great decision. Go big, or go home. Frost at this juncture, is a concession.
