For my part I put it at about 20% likelihood. I was a complete doubter last time but it seems to have more credibility this time around in terms of the timing both for us and him. Id love it if he came. But I will not all be disappointed if he doesnt, as long as we make a good hire.
Jimmy literally breaks news all the time. He gets the scoop plenty of times and leads off his show with it.
It may not be earth shattering stuff but Jimmy is a pro. He knows Gruden isnt happening as does Larry and every other respectable person with knowledge.
Our boosters are indecisive and find it very hard to make a big decision. It's the same reason it took us 10x longer to find an athletic director than Alabama.
Take Gruden out. What is the simplest explanation for why we haven't already fired Butch and started a search?
So if you are Currie, a new AD for the legions of the miserable why do you take heat for retaining a coach you didn't hire. I am not asking anyone to jump to a Gruden conclusion but surely you have thought about this.I guess Currie wants a coach in place. I'm not a fan of that approach. I get wanting that security measure in place, but we're surely past the point-of-no-return with Butch. He's lost the fanbase, he's lost boosters from all that we've heard. Somehow his team keeps fighting for him, but surely Currie can see that Butch is not the man for the job.
Maybe Currie was hoping to see if Butch could find another job after the season, but he's become the laughing stock of CFB. I highly doubt another program knocks down his door offering a position. JMO. I still don't think we get Butch's replacement until very end of Nov or early Dec (I believe it will be an active FBS coach & not Gruden), but let an interim salvage this season as best he can.
My thoughts...The Gruden deal is very similar to last time, most of the Boosters are driving this and bullying the AD to hire him. Any legit "insider" is hearing stuff leaking from the booster side, AD side folks like Larry aren't getting as much leakage due to Currie being tight lipped. The AD is full of people with different ideas and that is the main struggle (assuming Gruden actually wants the job).
Gruden wasn't as interested last time around as he is now (kids are older, one son at UT, youngest son likely ends up at UT, wife wants to be near family, ESPN making cuts again soon, he's not getting any younger, etc). I 100% believe boosters have come up with a plan for Gruden to be the next coach. Will ALL of the boosters sign off? Will the BOT, President and Currie come to the same decision? We'll find out.
The good part of all this is that it seems UT is going to swing for the fences this time around (even LWS has said money won't be a problem) and if they don't hit a grand slam it should be at least an inside the parker. JMO

Edit: also another thing that gives me great confidence Gruden or another very good coach will be the next HC is that Manning and Fulmer are heavily involved. Those guys bleed orange more than anyone and they know this hire is extremely important for the present and future of the program.
