unwarranted
Worley's bound to hit a few bombs downfield. He's showing some arm with the overthrows (instead of underthrowing all last year) and giving our playmakers a chance to make a play.
And on the OU side, their offense is still a work in progress. Take a look at this stat line for their opponents. Tulsa and LA Tech's D were crap allowing similar yardage to their other opponents as Oklahoma's:
Tulsa Rushing Yards Allowed
OU - 261
Tulane - 254
Tulsa Passing Yards Allowed
OU - 319
Tulane - 262
LA Tech Rushing Yards Allowed
OU - 183
ULL - 178
La Tech Passing Yards Allowed
OU - 253
ULL - 237
Thanks for the welcome.
I can certainly understand Vol fans concerns. I would imagine just about every fan base has some concerns at this point in the season. I know I do.
We had some pretty good teams that I never thought was very good at running the ball. It does seem like that area has improved for us in the last 2 years with our new O line coach. Of course, getting experience on the line usually helps which is (I'm guessing) why your Oline might be struggling now.
I don't think OU has done anything extraordinary at this point. We looked good in beating teams we were supposed to beat by large margins. Hard for me to really guage where we are. Just like Vol fans are looking at the game this Saturday as a barometer of where they stand...so are we.
I have always liked the Vols and I am glad to see Jones turning the program around...just not this weekend.
Its late and Ive been bored, so I decided to watch some of the OU vs Tulsa game. It was so boring, I couldnt watch past the end of the 1st. It seemed like nobody cared they were there. The OU offensive line just kind of stood up and looked extremely slow. They let some of the quicker DLinemen run around them. Blake Bell is their TE (moved from QB). He doesnt look great in pass blocking. The defense did not look as fast as advertised. Despite the score, overall, I wasnt that impressed. Tulsa can not tackle. I dont think OU played to their potential because they didnt need to. Tulsa was that bad.
How is your DL and pass rush?
Our front 7 is supposed to be the teams strong point and probably has our greatest depth.
I really don't know how many sacks we had in the first 2 games ( I think 4) but it wasn't 7 like it was against BAma which may make people to expect it to happen every time an opposing QB throws the ball. The d did consistently apply pressure and it seemed the opposition went for short routes to offset it rather than hardly ever going deep. The run was often used to counter the pass rush IMO.
We have a d that is built to face passing teams like we see in the Big 12...more of a bend but don't break mentality. I certainly wouldn't characterize it as a shutdown d...I'm not even sure if those exist any more.
People often seem to forget that Bama had over 500 yards on us and scored 31 points. 45-31 is not that unusual of a score in the Big 12...
My biggest concern about this game is that your strength plays right into our weakness.
A strong front 7 is not what I would like to see on Saturday.
That goes both ways....ou has little experience at the skill positions on offense & in the secondary. Our D will play well & I think we spread them out, run hurry up & throw quick routes to negate their rush. Dont be surprised Vol fans when we take this game into the 4th quarter.
