Recruiting Forum: UNofficial Oklahoma Pre-Game Thread

24-23 vols. OU settles for a lot of FGs and we are decently efficient in the run game. career high/game winner for medley at 47 yards :)

All Stoops has done is trash talk the SEC. He will look for every chance he can to run this score up.

If our OLine looked even the slightest bit better then I would hope to see it at least be close. This game will be another Oregon type blowout. :(

No way Okie scores that many, Oregon put up 59 on us. Okie didn't score that much against two cupcakes so far this year. Our defense is much better than La Tech or Tulsa. And despite our OL concerns, I think the overall offense is better than last year.

Okie wins but I'm thinking 38-24 type score.

Here is a little break down of OK and UT's opponents so far and the other two teams they have each played:

Code:
       Rushing Passing
[B]OK 183 253[/B]

La Tech 54 191

La Tech 238 295

[B]La Laffeyette 178 237 [/B]

Code:
                  Rushing Passing
[B]OK 261 319[/B]

Tulsa 94 234

Tulsa 154 438

[B]Tulane 254 262 [/B]

Code:

UT 110 273

USU 100 144

USU 311 116

ID ST 101 307

Code:
                Rushing Passing
UT 168 247

Arky ST 141 190

Arky ST 283 264

Mont ST 86 142

One thing I noticed is that OK's opponents other opponents put up about the same numbers yardage wise as OK did. It wasn't like OK did anything above and beyond what their lesser opponents did too. The opposing offenses were stifled against OK and then did well against their other opponents though. I am curious to see how OK comes out against UT Surely has more talent on both sides of the ball than Tulsa and La Tech.

Defensive battle, imo until our stagnant offense leaves our D high and dry. I would eat my favorite UT hat to beat them though. And it's pretty sweaty and nasty.

Not saying they will do it to us, but Oklahoma has shut it down at halftime in each game. They could have easily put up 70 points in both

No chance Stoops shuts it down against an SEC team. If we don't win, we will get blasted I fear.

We can win this game. Don't let their ranking fool you, we are close in talent. They are deeper and more experienced though.

My prediction however:
Vols-23
Sooners-31

I don't think I can pick against my vols.

Worley with 350+ yards passing
Vols win 34-30, stopping a late Oklahoma drive on 4th down inside our 30 yard line to save the upset.

Sure, but we let up as well, especially in the Arky St game. Also, Utah St and Arky St>La Tech and Tulsa.

Here were the records in 2013.

La Tech - 4-8
Tulsa - 3-9

vs

Utah St - 9-3
Ark St - 8-4

I posted this in the recruiting forum, but I'll post it again: This is rather encouraging from Butch:
(On Coach Stoops wanting to prove something to SEC fans)
"I don't look at that at all. I have a tremendous amount of respect for Coach Stoops. I've known him. My first year at Cincinnati we played them, I think they were ranked number two in the country and we played them, and it was a great football game. We lost at the end. Coach Martinez was the secondary coach and we had about a seventy-yard touchdown pass and our receiver was going in the end zone and they're DB came from about thirty-yards behind and textbook secured the tackle, ripped the ball out, and that was a game changing play. I look at our two football teams and we're both looking to go 3-0. They're a very talented football team and I have a tremendous amount of respect for what they've done there and their players."

Not according to Trooper, according to Basilio. :)

I'm not getting all of the negativity on the Vols. They beat a decent Utah State team and looked good IMO in doing it. I didn't see the arky state game but from this board it appears they struggled a bit but nothing to die over. Its a young team.

I haven't seen a team this year that doesn't look beatable. OU has a lot of new receivers and running backs as well as an inexperienced secondary. We haven't played anybody yet and I would guess that Utah State will be better than either of OU's opponents.

The point spread at 21 is ridiculous. I wouldn't touch that at all. Butch Jones has done a really good job at TN and I don't see anyone blowing the Vols out. They are getting the talent now with youth and inexperience are their deficiencies. I would only be slightly surprised by a TN upset because of the game being in Norman. Knight has a lot of potential but he is still a streaky passer with inexperienced receivers. I hope I'm wrong but I sure don't see a blowout in this game.

Anyway, hope those that are coming to Norman enjoy themselves (other than the outcome, of course). The weather sounds like it will be great. Tailgates will welcome you and there are plenty of them.

I've spent a lot of time in Cookeville this past year and a half and look forward to hitting Knoxville for the game next year. A great college football venue.

Thanks for the perspective. I think part of the reason we get so negative is because of the decade rut our team is trying to climb out of. It wears on your mentality.

35-21 OU. We withstand the opening hype and energy, but they have too much talent and experience in the end.

NEW LOOK O-LINE. As expected, the Vols made at least one change to the first-team offensive line Tuesday, and it was the change we’ve suspected for a couple of weeks. Versatile junior Kyler Kerbyson was moved from right tackle to left tackle, and freshman Coleman Thomas was the first-team right tackle. The rest of the first-team lineup — junior left guard Marcus Jackson, junior center Mack Crowder and freshman right guard Jashon Robertson — stayed the same, leaving the Vols with two true freshmen on the right side. Redshirt freshman Brett Kendrick moved from first-team left tackle to second-team left tackle, and junior Dontavius Blair moved from second-team left tackle to second-team right tackle.

I just hope we can keep to 14-17 point deficit, i just dont want to get completely embarrassed. If we put up a good fight, its definitely going to look good to the recruits.
I hope for an amazing upset, and pray we dont get utterly destroyed on primetime. Starting freshmen at RG and RT, its going to be hard to even run the ball or for Worley to have time to make his reads. Would be absolutely amazing if Hurd just goes bonkers and runs for 200+ with 15 tackles broken. and Lane throws in a cool 80yds...lol, one can hope and dream. Hopefully are D has a great gameplan and makes some great plays, force 2-3 big turnovers. Man, what a win like this game would feel like and mean for these young men..fingers crossed

Welcome to the board. :hi:

As for the negativity in the Football forum, I cannot speak. It is often not very reasonable and honestly, many posters here avoid that forum all together.

As for the "negativity" around here, I personally don't think I would call it that. We are aware of very real problems that we have on our team, particularly offensive line. I am sure you have concerns about Oklahoma as well, though I would venture your concerns are much less than our own.

Sure, the wins to open the season were nice, but many of us are looking to Oklahoma to give us a true test of where we are actually at. It's hard to see that when the offense is obviously holding back and the competition is suspect.

The truth is, no one has any idea how we are going to come out on Saturday, but I hope we give you a heck of a fight, and somehow walk away with the victory. Personally, my concerns about our OL, and particularly running the football, are not giving me an overwhelmingly positive outlook on the game.

Thanks for the welcome.

I can certainly understand Vol fans concerns. I would imagine just about every fan base has some concerns at this point in the season. I know I do.

We had some pretty good teams that I never thought was very good at running the ball. It does seem like that area has improved for us in the last 2 years with our new O line coach. Of course, getting experience on the line usually helps which is (I'm guessing) why your Oline might be struggling now.

I don't think OU has done anything extraordinary at this point. We looked good in beating teams we were supposed to beat by large margins. Hard for me to really guage where we are. Just like Vol fans are looking at the game this Saturday as a barometer of where they stand...so are we.

I have always liked the Vols and I am glad to see Jones turning the program around...just not this weekend.
