Recruiting Rankings Matter

Ohio State just showed the whole country what spending $20+ million will do for a team that had 3 weeks rest. We looked like an FCS school compared to them. Not hating on Will Brooks at all using him as an example. We can’t have walk ons starting on the team. You need elite players all over the field. The only way we will become elite is by getting top 3 NIL money spent rosters going forward. We have the money. SPEND IT. I don’t care about anything off the field for a recruit. The top teams/coaches that win the natty obviously don’t either ie. Urban Myer/Kirby Smart. Will he be an elite playmaker for us? Go get us some future NFL 1st/2nd round studs. This isn’t the “will he fit with the team and our culture” cfb environment anymore. Enough of the bs.

Oregon, OSU, Texas and Ga have spent a **** ton of $$$$$$$ that’s why they have lines that are almost impenetrable, wrs that are beasts, d lines that destroy your oline . Etc etc etc

For the most part yes. I think Michigan last year and the first Clemson team that won a natty debunked that a little. I agree we need to start hitting top 5 territory. What’s really important is average of recruit. Elite teams often have .93+. We have steadily gone from .89 to .91 under CJH, best recruiting we’ve done in some time, but still that gap.

I do think we can win a natty with our current recruiting but it would take very good coaching across the board + difference makers from the portal. If we can’t find a way to jump into that top 5 territory, we better find a way to kill it in the portal every year.

Will brooks made some bad plays but he’s the main reason we even crept back into the game lol. He’s our best safety easily. Now if you want to use our other safeties as example, go for it easily

OSU pulled Downs and Judkins out of the portal. We have to spend for elite talent. Just the way the sport is now.

Yup. 8 million dollar QB with all the potential in the world but we won’t spend to get him some elite WRs and a solid oline coach ? Pretty baffling. If things don’t change Nico will be remembered as a good QB here but ultimately wasted.

You don’t have to be two deep in 5 stars but you gotta have em at every level of defense and across the offense. Or at least put 80% blue chip across the starting 22. This is the last hurdle. 91 to 93. We got to have at least one of those classes.

Turrentine was late a good bit. Jakolbe thomas had one particularly costly play where he played near perfect coverage and they got lucky by a couple inches. We had a lot of guys tonight that had a costly play, missed assignment, got beat, didn’t finish. I honestly think we underestimated their individual talent combined with bad game planning. I still don’t know how that happens after 3 weeks.

I will also say Michigan and that first Clemson team only had to win 2 games for a the natty as well. Now you have to win a minimum or 3, probably 4 to win one. Yeah it’s gonna take more talent.

I wasn’t hating on Will brooks he’s been a stud all year for us. But I’m just stating facts if we wanna be a team that can win a playoff game much less a natty we can’t be starting walk ons much less letting them even get in the game ever again. Our talent has to get better

Was that during the NIL and the 12 team playoff? No. The game has completely changed. Stop looking at history. It’s irrelevant. The whole sport/recruiting has completely went to professionalism. Andrew Luck just got hired as the GM at Stanford for Gods sake

Edit: That is a once in a generation type of luck to happen lol. The only other one was Baker Mayfield he didn’t win a natty.

We went all in on Matthew’s and Tate last cycle. We barely use the one we got and Tate is second string at OSU.

Ultimately we need 80% of the class to be top 300, all DL and OL to be 4 star or higher, land a top 100 at WR, Corner, LB, and safety every year to compete. On top of we know coach can recruit QBs.

Someone already said it, the routes take too long. Run a damn slant more than once a game. Get a possession receiver. The passing game ultimately was this team's undoing and part of it is scheme.. This high-school oline can't hold up long enough for deep routes.. So maybe try something else.

We have zero creativity on O. We don’t move our playmakers around to create space and mismatches. It’s vanilla and everyone has figured it out.
It’s a little of everything. Sampson got hurt. Both left and right tackles have been awful all year. Wide receivers never open. I’ve said it all year, Halzle brings nothing new to the offense. He’s followed Heupel around his entire career. Heupel’s loyalty is similar to the downfall of Fulmer.

I’ll defend Heupel on a lot of things, but this is the one thing that I do have to pile on him. He needs to see that friends are great to have around him, but that doesn’t mean they’re going to help him.

If you say recruiting rankings don’t matter, last night proved you wrong. Ohio St. had all the Jimmies and Tennessee had the Joes in multiple positions of importance.

This. Our receivers got exposed. There's no way we can show up next year without a true #1 WR that can create mismatches.
I did not watch that much, but what I saw was Nico spending the night running for his life. Same thing happened against UGA. The OL is good, but not elite.

Not that he has the foundation. The old saying never do business with friends and family seem to apply to coaching.
