Recruiting rankings thread

NO WAY Clemson should be ahead of us. We have one more 5* and several more 4*. It isn't a big deal to me personally as ive watched our players videos and I know what quality we have coming in. It just doesn't make any sense when their own numbers are right there contradicting their rankings. Oh well....GO VOLS

The system is based off of points. They higher ranked, the more points they are worth. a 6.0 4* gets more points than a 5.9 4*. and a 5.9 4* gets more than a 5.8 4*. You also get points for the higher ranked in the top 250 they are. Its not based on star averages.

seems like this is explained every day

Yea I have read that explanation and didn't ask for one. I was making a statement but thanks for the snarkiness

You're welcome. If you know how it works then why are you acting like you don't know?

"It just doesn't make any sense when their own numbers are right there contradicting their rankings."

Their numbers aren't contradicting their rankings, because the numbers are based off of their formula and not based on average star ranking.

If we have 3 more 4*s than another team, and one more 5* that is 4 more players with point totals that the other team does NOT have at that level.

Thanks for breaking it down. I get that they do what they do and justify it accordingly. Doesn't change the fact that I think its stupid. We have 4 more players ranked 4* or higher so in my undeserving of any scientific or formulaic credited opinion, we whipped dey azz.

There is really nothing scientific about the whole process anyway. I mean how do they quantify a 6.0 vs 5.9? It's a few guys subjective opinions and ultimately a marketing tool to create conversation and sell subscriptions.

In all sincerity, regardless of rankings, I would not trade this class for any other class this year.

I can not imagine, with the available scholarships, how we could have addressed our needs any better. (I reserve the right to back-peddle two years from now)

If I'm reading this right, it says our 4 year recruiting average is 13.75 (and higher than it was last year). But it also only shows our recruiting class at 13th for this year. I don't think anyone had us that low.

I think the ranking of 13th is where our average falls in relation to everyone else, not where we were last year.

I think you're right. Weird way to do it, though. I'm not sure why they even listed the "Four-year" (average) column.

The great thing to take from this, though, is that we have the 13th best 4-year recruiting average in the nation!

Now once our average experience catches up with the talent (hopefully by the latter part of this season), and if the coaching does prove to be solid, we should be able to compete with the "big boys".

Go Vols!!! :clapping:

Pretty interesting website I found via Reddit (CFB thread). It ranks recruiting classes based on a commits offer list, instead of using "stars." According to this, we had the 10th best recruiting class based on what scholarship offers our commits had from other schools (for example, an Alabama offer is going to be weighed more heavily than Northwest Missouri Community Technical College).

I think offer lists are a decent indication of a recruits talents. Although, there area variety of reasons a guy may or may not get an offer from a school like Bama. Location, system fit, roster needs, lack of available spots, etc. There is also the non commitable offers that would need to be factored in.

It's piece of the puzzle but not a be all end all.

In 247 we're as high as 3rd. But yeah, it's mostly filled with Ohio 3 stars. Our only four stars are in state guys. I think Stoops decided to get a class fast, and give time to recruit if we get any decommits. He'll probably save some spots for the high ranked targets that wont choose for a long time.
