Recruiting Update 7/22

I agree, but I figured with our lack of depth in the post, it would be an interesting question.

If jw3 was a true post man that may make me think about it more, like if you had to take one king or Agau who would it be, I'd give more thought to that. Jw3 won't really fill our "post" need though, unless he changes his game over the next year.

I like Agau, I really do. But King might be the best wing scorer in this class that isn't named Jabari Parker.

Yea, not saying I'd take him over king, just saying that choice would've been more of a predicament than king/jw3, that's a no brainer IMO.

It boils down to Duke and UT for Nichols. Past recruiting experiences against ACC schools the Vols have come up short. Let's hope CCM can close the deal this time.

This is true, and just coming in second will not get it done. Let's hope CCM can close the deal.

3 top 50's and 1 top 100, sign me up. Two things do slightly concern me though with that class...1. No real big, and we're gonna be thin in that department and 2. No true backup to Golden, so hopefully Moore or Richardson emerges if that's the class we get.

I have a hard time believing we don't take Landry or another PG because of the lack of space, unless they believe Crawford can play there. I think with Crawford's injury, we can afford to play it slow with him and see if a scholly opens up in the spring. With Florida being his leader and us a close second, I doubt they take a chance on him now. I think he's probably ours to lose.

We're in that same boat now, that's the only thing that makes me think CCM would do it. We have one PG, golden, and then a bunch of guys who can "bring it up". He was the same way at Missouri state, liked to have 2 or 3 guys who weren't pg, but that could bring it up the floor.

So if he's ok with golden and then combo guards last year and this year, I feel like he maybe ok with it next year as well. Also, maybe Moore or Richardson steps forward and shows they're a serviceable backup.

Side note...any confirmation on the injury? If it was just a banged knee then that doesn't effect his recruitment, if it was an ACL it really effects it!??

I think he did try to address it with Washpun, which didn't work out. That's why we are in our current predicament. I don't think it is his preferred scenario.

Re: Crawford...his injury was described as a bad knee injury. Take that for what it is. Hope the best for him though.

Surely he didn't think washpun was the answer, IMO that was a hope for the best in case we needed it last year. I think he's ok going combo guards, he had the opportunity to bring in a PG this offseason and didn't, that's why I say he seems ok with the combos.

Well I don't thInk you offer a kid if you don't thInk he can at least be serviceable. Not on the SEC level. I doubt he probably ever expected him to be a primary starter, no. But as a backup, which is what we need, sure he had to think he could help. Why offer otherwise.

I hold by my thought that Martin thought things were going to be worse than they ended up. I think he took some kids he may not have, thinking it was going to be a tough go, washpun being one of them IMO. It was the best he could get at the time, but once he saw better options he parted with him it seems.

As I said, he ran one that way at miss st, combos that could bring it up, not always a clear cut backup PG, that's why alot of his guys played 32-35 minutes, he loves versatility. I'm not saying I'm guaranteeing that's the route he goes, just saying he's shown in the past, and currently actually, that he'll use combos as backup PG.

So if it comes down to Landry or Crawford I wouldn't be shocked to see him take Crawford, that's all I'm really saying.

I agree about CCMs expectations when he came in. He thought it was much worse.

Nice that we are being considered by some top recruits. While i thought we would get there (a team that could land a top 25 recruiting class) I didn't think we would get there this quick.

We still need to sign them but Martin is doing everything he can.

You took the time out of your day to post this when you could have just clicked the football forum link? Really? No need to add "basketball" to the title when it's in the damn basketball forum!

Don't bring that junk over here. Just make a hot link to the football boards, ya dingus.

Wes Rucker "Not sure why some media seem convinced Tennessee won't land Austin Nichols and Robert Hubbs. Vols could get both."
