Recruiting Update 7/22

Wes Rucker "Not sure why some media seem convinced Tennessee won't land Austin Nichols and Robert Hubbs. Vols could get both."

Indeed!!!!!!!!!!!!

We're gonna open some eyes around the country if we pull those two. For some reason nobody besides Tennessee fans seem to realize that we have a legitimate shot at both.

That's fine with me though, id prefer to fly under the radar then make a nice splash. Land those 2, while starting out the season strong and well definitely make a statement.

I really need to stop being a dick, but seriously, who posts in a thread they didn't mean to click and that they have no interest in?

Because besides the two from one of the recent threads that was being light hearted about it.....they are trolls trying to get a response and it works as the conversation changes from basketball recruiting to why basketball should be loved and trash talking a screenname that never adds another comment to the discussion.

Just figured I'd add this here...

If most of these guys holdout on their decisions that would be unfortunate. For one the anxiety of waiting will suck, no doubt.

However, by putting all your eggs in the Nichols, jw3 basket and them waiting to decide, you leave yourself very vulnerable if they end up spurning you at the end.

This possible dream class could very well end up as a big letdown, not trying to be negative, just honest and present both sides. We could really really really use some early commitments from atleast one or two of these guys.

I just don't see kids with their talent committing to TN without seeing how the team and players have improved. Especially, Stokes. If I were in their shoes, I'd want to make sure that I was coming to a program that will consistently make it to the big tourny and can develope my skills to send me to the next level. I only see them waiting until Spring as a good thing for UT. They have interest in our program and coach at this point, but are in a wait and see approach before making a final decision.

I agree with you on this 100%. There is a constant shifting of recruiting priorities as players start to commit. If a kid has say 4 schools he is giving serious consideration - he ultimately has 3 that will be spurned. They suddenly have to look elsewhere to fill their needs. The more early commits the better in my book. Otherwise you are at risk of having another school suddenly get in with a kid you've invested heavily in recruiting.

Rob Lewis will be on sports talk with jimmy today, sometime after 3, talking Vols basketball recruiting. I won't be able to catch it so if anyone can, and summarize that'd Br great.

CCM isn't going to pull any top recruits IMO in the fall signing. If he fills his class during the fall, then we will be looking at another class of Richardson, Washpun, Yemi type players. He's going to have to have a great year this year and pull those kids in this spring.

So you don't think we land hubbs? Hell be signing early...

CCM front and center again for hubbs and nichols, he's been following them all July.

"@EvanDanielsFOX: For Austin Nichols and Robert Hubbs: Billy D, Roy Williams, Josh Pastner, Cuonzo Martin...”

Rob Lewis said earlier today he is hearing September 15th as a date for BOTH hubbs and Nichols to take their visit to Tennessee.

For those that don't know, that's a Saturday, happens to be Florida-Tennessee game at Neyland Stadium.

I like bringing in both guys together at the same time for a BIG football game. Note that this could definitely change.

Yeah but with our luck, Florida will beat the T's off of our jersey and hijack our rock like those UK folks did. I say paint it real pretty and guard that thing all afternoon!!!

Saw one of the assistants at the AAU championships at Disney's Wide World of Sports. There's like a million teams here so who knows who he was watching. Every other school is here too. Really neat to see all the schools represented.

Thisx10000

That rock makes an impact on these kids, it's well known and Nichols knowing about UT it'd be awesome for him and hubbs to experience that.

“@CuonzoMartin: It’s great to walk into a gym wearing Tennessee gear and know that everyone instantly recognizes that Big Orange. Go Vols!”
