Regional Hosting Sites, NCAA Selection Thoughts and Projections

I am certain they will put LSU at the 16 and send them to Knoxville. It’s not a matchup from the regular season and it would be a huge ratings draw. It would also be absolutely horrifying and completely disrespectful to the Vols (which is largely why I anticipate it happening).
LSU is 2 in #9 Hattiesburg

in that projection, yes… but Kendall has been very adamant the last few days that LSU is climbing quickly and a few wins in Hoover would get them in as a host. Seems like our best scenario to avoid them is for them to go 0-2 in Hoover, or for them to win it all.

LSU is very good. They are also very prone to inexplicable collapses. Depending on their draw, they would theoretically get the best 2-seed as the final host and I’m not so sure they survive.

I was thinking this but with Arkansas instead of LSU.

The committee has pretty much ignored conference tournaments for several years. I don’t blame them as the top teams often go to no great extremes to win. Unlike basketball, if you need a strong run in tourney to get in, then you’re not getting in.

Given that, it’s ironic that the auto bids go to the tourney winner and not the regular season champ.

Look at the recent history of conference tourneys

Duke went on a helluva run to win ACC and win 1 game Knoxville
Mississippi State was run dulled twice in Hoover and when CWS
Arkansas won Hover and did not give Kopps much of a break and lost before Omaha
Vanderbilt performed poorly in Hoover and made it to title series

I think that’s the individual conferences’ calls. The conferences chose the tournament hoping to steal a bid. Normally they just take a a bid from someone in their own conference.

I’ve been thinking, there committee normally thinks railings and regionally for assignments. Tennessee is such a clear cut #1 they may just automatically send the worst #4 team to Knoxville. Coppin- as it stands now is that worst team and despite Maryland hosting down the road, Coppin would likely come to Knoxville

D1 has Coppin as a 4 seed in Knoxville.
