Religion/Bible/Theology Topic - Beware All Ye That Enter Here

but i do have plenty of hard evidence and proof. her actions. if god provided me with such evidence i surely would not be agnostic.

A man (lets call him Tony) arrives home on a Friday night with a bouquet of roses in his hand for his wife (whose name is Kristie :)). She sees them and immediately responds, "those are so lovely" and gives Tony an affectionate kiss. He responds, "but not as lovely as you my dear". Tony then shows his other hand which had been behind his back, and he is holding a diamond necklace which he also gives to Kristie. She coys, "what a beautiful gift"! He responds, "diamonds are forever... and yet my love for you will endure even longer than these diamonds". Kristie gives her husband a long, warm, and loving embrace.

So two weeks prior, Kristie had asked Tony if they could plan a full day together since he had been spending numerous hours at work as well as many weeks away from home traveling on business. He, of course, agreed that would be a good idea. They penciled in a date on the calendar for Saturday in two weeks. Kristie asked again if he was sure that day would be okay, and Tony assured her that it would.

A week passes and Kristie asks Tony again if the coming Saturday was still available for them to spend together. He responds, "I've blocked it on my outlook calendar and there is nothing I would rather do than to spend the day with you".

Five more days have passed and each day Kristie mentions how much she is looking forward to Saturday, and Tony confirms that he is really looking forward to it as well.

Friday at work (the day before their planned day together) one of Tony's friends mentions he needs a fourth to play a round of golf on Saturday. Tony replies that unfortunately he can not play, as he had already made plans to spend the day with his wife. His friend then mentions that the tee time is for Augusta National, which as everyone knows is one of the most exclusive clubs in the world... and is also one of the 10 things on Tony's "bucket" list! To add to the fun, his friend also mentions that the greens fees are paid for and they will be taking a private jet from Chattanooga to Augusta.

Fast forward to Friday evening to the scene previously mentioned, where Tony has presented Kristie with roses and a diamond necklace. The only thing that hasn't happened as yet is that Tony still has to tell Kristie that he will be playing golf on Saturday instead of spending the day with her as previously planned.

Now, once Tony has informed Kristie of his "new plans" for Saturday his prior actions of giving her roses and a diamond necklace... as well as his loving words... take on a completely different meaning. The moral of the story being... the exact same actions, absent a full understanding of the motive driving those actions, can clearly take on different meaning depending on ones perspective.

I can only assume that you didn't actually read your own "google" results as most of them actually substanstiate the accuracies of the Bible.

"On the other hand, if we can demonstrate that such a book is correct in historical matters, to an extent unknown among human writings, then we have strong evidence that the authors were inspired by God. In this lesson we shall learn that this is true of the Bible."

The renowned Biblical scholar of our time, Google, seems to overwhelmingly agree that it is wrong:

Let me google that for you

Sorry to be coming to the party late... but these google results also seem to mostly contradict the intent to show gambling as a sin.

However, if it is a sin then I would ask Droski...

Would it also be a sin to "invest" in the stock market? :p

Thanks. I usually try to keep any responses relatively brief... but in this case the full story seemed to be appropriate.

Not that it is appropriate but it is funny.
(and I'll try to make a long story short)

Back when my son was in college he had a job on the grounds crew at "The Country Club of Tennessee" and they could play the course on Mondays and invite guests.

So I set up a foursome with my son and invited two very distinguised gentlemen for which I had great respect.

The guy I invited called the morning before and told me his friend was ill and couldn't play and he had tried but couldn't find another player.

So then I made a call to a friend to make the foursome but he had to work and reccomended another guy that I called and he said he had a tee time already with another guy but he was sick and couldn't play so call that guy and see if he wanted to play.

I just barely knew this guy but I called him and informed him his playing pardner was sick and couldn't play and invited him to complete our foursome.

He asked who I was and where we were playing.

I told him my son, the distinguised gentleman which he knew and I planned to play in in Kingston Springs.

He hesitated for a moment and then asked; "what course"? (There isn't but one course in Kingston Springs and he knew it.)

I said; "The country club"

Again he hesitated and then asked; "how much is this going to cost?" and I said it's free and the golf car is included.

By now he really smelled a rat and was sure this was a practical joke being played on him.

He paused for the longest and then asked; "what was your name again??"

I told him; "look we are going to tee off in 45 minutes, here is the number to punch in at the gate, if you are there you can play, otherwise we will play a threesome."

On about the fourth hole he confessed, until I punched in those numbers and the gate opened, I was dammned sure you guys were pulling my leg.

I take it none of the theists here are baptists.

What do you know about Baptists??

You can take it any way you want.

I'm a Christian, first and foremost. Demonitations are of far lesser importance.

gs, I know the Southern Baptist Convention has come out against gambling numerous times.

I'm stupid, explain the whole gambling thing to me.

By the way, the Southern Baptist Convention is far from perfect. They just happen to do missions at a fair level.

It's nothing. I hear all the time from Christians that gambling is a sin, and get bible verses thrown in there, but apparently no one on this forum prescribes to that opinion.

From what I understand, anything you put above God in your life is sin.

For example, if you value your wealth more than you value God being pleased with you, you are headed in the wrong direction.

I'm willing to bet it's a moot point if you don't believe in God.

In the context of a "sin," sure. But I don't gamble out of my own principles, anyway. I was once given the advice to never gamble what you can't afford to lose, and I am not in a position to afford losing anything.

IP, to me it is just like drinking. There is nothing wrong with having a drink. There is something wrong with drinking when it gets out of control.

Might as well join this one!!!

Gn. 1:26, And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness:......

Gn. 2:4, These are the "generations"of the heavens and the earth and of the earth when they were created.....

Gn. 2:7, And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breathe of life, and man became a living soul.

I'll just throw this out there, Lets have Gen. be chronoligical in order. First we have the creation story and God making man in His image. Taking verse 2:4, that these are the "generations" of the heavens and the earth when they were created. With the word Generations, we really don't know the length of time that these things took place in. This could have been thousands or millions of years for these generations to take place. Complete with having man here.

That brings us to Gn. 2:7, Where God formed man and he became a "Living Soul". A difference here between man and a man with a living soul. This living soul man known as Adam.

My Concordance is at church and I can't remember exactly where the scripture is off hand but there is a verse there that says that things were created to look old. When I find it I will post it.
