I'll do ya one even better. What if someone woke up one Sunday morning and said, "I think I'm gonna go to church this morning and see what this God thing is all about." Tragically, that person dies in a car wreck on the way.
We can play hypotheticals all day; however, the Bible still teaches what it does, which is baptism saves us from our sins.

You mean Church of Christ teaches baptism saves us from our sins.
Romans 5:1
Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
Ephesians 2:8
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Matthew 10:32
Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven
1 Corinthians 1:14-17
14I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius;
15Lest any should say that I had baptized in mine own name.
17For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.
Acts 16:31
And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

These are great scriptures, and I agree - faith and confession are required for salvation. But the Bible doesn't stop there:
In Acts 2, Peter preaches to the multitude that they are in danger of losing their souls. They killed Christ.
Acts 2 37 Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?
38 Then Peter said to them, Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Peter could have said, "Nothing, you all believe and you're all good." But he didn't. Under divine inspiration of the Holy Spirit (v 4) he said "repent and be baptized." They knew they had to do something, and Peter told them.

Why did Peter not say, "Be baptized, and repent"?
The reason he did, was because being baptized before repenting meant nothing, you had to have a reason to be baptized. You had to accept Christ first.
Baptism takes nothing from the grace of Christ. It is by the grace of Christ that we can even have this conversation.
The Philippian jailor fathomed putting this much power into baptism:
Acts 16
30 And he brought them out and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?
31 So they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household. 32 Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house. 33 And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their stripes. And immediately he and all his family were baptized. 34 Now when he had brought them into his house, he set food before them; and he rejoiced, having believed in God with all his household.
The jailor found it so important that, with everything that was going on, he knew the importance of being baptized right away. Why? Note when they rejoiced. AFTER the baptism. Why? When does the passage say they had believed in God? Why AFTER the baptism? Because if you LOVE HIM, you will KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS. Baptism is required for forgiveness of sins.
How do you accept Christ?
Galatians 3 27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
Why don't we refer to Christ's own words here: For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16
In Jesus' entire statement to Nicodemus, He did not tell Nicodemus that he had to be baptized. The important part at that point was to believe.
