Scary............ I'll never fathom putting this much power into baptism.

You honestly don't feel it taking away from the grace of Jesus?

Baptism takes nothing from the grace of Christ. It is by the grace of Christ that we can even have this conversation.

The Philippian jailor fathomed putting this much power into baptism:

Acts 16
30 And he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”
31 So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.” 32 Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house. 33 And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their stripes. And immediately he and all his family were baptized. 34 Now when he had brought them into his house, he set food before them; and he rejoiced, having believed in God with all his household.

The jailor found it so important that, with everything that was going on, he knew the importance of being baptized right away. Why? Note when they rejoiced. AFTER the baptism. Why? When does the passage say they had believed in God? Why AFTER the baptism? Because if you LOVE HIM, you will KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS. Baptism is required for forgiveness of sins.

If Baptism was good enough for Jesus, then its good enough for me!!! Besides, isn't He supposed to be our example?

If anyone is going to use the baptism argument they should first look to Dismas.

If you mean the thief on the cross, someone mentioned that earlier. The thief died before the death, burial and resurrection of Christ. Obviously the thief had courage and honesty. He rebuked the other robber. He certainly appeared to fear God, and he acknowledged his guilt.

Jesus' teachings of the necessity of baptism for salvation was not given until He gave His great commission:

Matthew 28 18Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.

Mark 16 15 He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. 16Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.

Luke 24 46 He told them, "This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, 47 and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

The thief never lived and died before this commission; therefore baptism was not applicable.

There was a lady in my church a few years ago that went forward on a Sunday morining, and professed in front of the entire church that she had given her life to christ. She died in a car wreck 3 days later, and was to be baptized the following Sunday.

Your telling me that Christ will turn her away?

Romans 5:1

Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:

Ephesians 2:8

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

Matthew 10:32

Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven

1 Corinthians 1:14-15

14I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius;
15Lest any should say that I had baptized in mine own name.
17For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.

Acts 16:31

And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

Please give me an example after the death, burial and resurrection of Christ.

If there was a man or woman, that was on their death bed, and came to full repentance and believed before their death, and died before being able to be Baptized, this person would be saved.

I agree 100%! I was saved first, then as an outward showing of my faith, I was Baptized. The washing and renewing!

This is not the impression that you gave with your comment in the post before this one.
Glad you clarified that.

I have a good example.
