Fabulously, especially compared to that erratic angry dude.

Really? You have proof of him in a debate setting showing grace under fire?

I'm not a Newt fan, but I will give the Devil his due, he would slaughter Obama in a debate setting.

Newt can debate, but that will not win him the election.
If it's Newt vs Obama, Obama wins big.

With 1% of the SC votes in
Romney has 38%
Newt has 34%

Newt has been declared the winner.

Very bold statement, and I happen to disagree. I don't see Obama "winning big" over any top GOP candidate. Not saying the GOP has the better option, but Obama has not been a good POTUS.

Concensus seems to be that no one will "win big" this year.

This reminds me a lot of the early build up. Keeps cycling because the three traditional candidates still left are all crap. The tea party has swayed the dialogue, but I don't think of these candidates as small government.

edit: Does any actually expect Romney to balance the budget? I'd rather put money on the Vols winning the NC.

He has stated its a "moral imperative" to not spend more than we take in. He seems like a a pretty moral guy vs his peers

If that was what he does, ok, but it isn't. He just shouts down anyone with the temerity to ask.

Why do you think he keeps talking about debating Obama with no moderator?

He can't stand to be criticized.

Are you kidding? Newt never looks better than when someone criticizes or attacks him and he gets to play the liberal media card.

I don't see a balanced budget with a military so strong nobody would think of attacking us...And at the worse a war with Iran. I will hold my breath and hope this is just primary vote buying until the general, but he's been so emphatic I don't see how he backs out of it. Sounds like he's posturing for that military industrial complex $$$$$.

Newt's ability to portray anger at the "liberal media" is going to win him the nomination. Not so sure picking a firebrand is going to be the best choice... I wasn't alive in 1980, but from all accounts, Reagan expressed his conservative ideals with firmness and positivity at the same time. We'll see if Newt can do the same, but while being pissed off about everything at the same time.

Still don't think Newt will win. But if UE is still hovering in the 8's and there's a Tea Party sentiment still out there, pissed off might not necessarily be a bad thing.

I think if Romney would act pissed off every once in a while, he'd cakewalk to the nomination.

This. Medicare/Medicaid and Social Security are huge outlays, but defense spending is already as big as either of those two. A candidate cannot be simultaneously serious about erasing the deficit and for expanding the federal outlay for defense spending, as Mitt claims to be.

Newt is the only GOP candidate, imo, that has an equal ability to Obama to inspire voter turnout... perhaps with the exception of RP but his voter base is limited. Just don't see Romney or Santorum getting too many people excited.

I would have to reach deep down to ind a reason to vote for Newt if he gets the nomination. Deep...

I would really, really have to want Obama out of office to pull the lever for that guy.

If you're thinking about voting for Obama, is there honestly ANYBODY in the GOP field that appeals to you though?

Aside from RP, who doesn't have a snowballs chance in hell of making the ticket, it's really a matter of whether or not I write in.

Besides, Oregon is no longer a swing state, it's pretty solidly D now.
