Republican Nomination for President

Who would you vote for to run for President from the Republican Party?

alright, come clean...who voted for Bachmann on this poll?

Did anyone else notice that Crazy Lady Bachman had 1 vote in this poll? I really hope that their cat walked across the keyboard while they were trying to vote for someone who should not be institutionalized.

I believe that explanation is as good as any.

Bachmann is no more crazy than Santorum and we all know how he managed.

Agreed. Kinda feel like the victims of the supposed "war on women" have been Palin, and Bachmann. Yeah, they might be idiots, but where do we get off lampooning them when we nominate/elect real winners like Gore, Bush, Obama, McCain, and Romney? The negative attention paid to female Republicans is a little much.

How can you leave John Kerry off that list? He makes Mitt Romney appear to be genuine and likable.

Palin asks for what she gets. "I can see Russia from my house". Or how about the interview last week where she said things were getting better under Obama for "Wall street fat cat’s", and had just previously been talking about his "failed socialist policies". Or her inability to name a newspaper that she has read. Or my favorite all time statement of hers, referring to Africa as a country.

1) Forgot Kerry.

2) Does she deserve more scrutiny than Obama saying 57 states? Than Biden telling a guy with no legs to stand up?

3) I don't know what the exact quote is, but it sounds like she's competently discussing corporate welfare.

The problem is that both Palin and Bachman fit into stereotypes of ditzy.

Palin comes across as an overconfident simpleton. She thinks she's smart and blathers with the self-confidence of thinking she has a clue, but in reality everyone else is laughing at her and she just doesn't see that.

Bachman fits the stereotype of, literally, wide eyed and naive. Constantly appears startled and unsure of what to say or do.

Right after she really got going they had done quite a job with her, and I said so here. She was calm, collected, stuck to a few main points, voice level and self-assured. But then, inevitably, she got in front of crowds. And predictably lost her mind.

57 states was bad. I expect crazy from Biden, that's honestly what I like about him.

What right does Palin have to talk about corporate welfare? She backed the bailouts. Republicans love corporate welfare. Gotta take care of the "job creators"

still having trouble telling the difference between Sarah Palin and Tina Fey?

What she actually said was equally dumb. She claimed to have experience dealing with other countries because of the close proximitey of Alaska to Russia and Canada, which any normal person would then go on to mention trade agreements or something normal with those countries. Instead Palin decides to mention that on one island in Alaska, you can actually see Russia. Because that is clearly important.

She was governor, so she couldn't vote for them. I'm pretty sure she opposed them in her rhetoric. Could be wrong. Anyways, this is a tangent that has nothing to do with how she is treated intellectually, because virtually every politician is given a pass on hypocrisy.

The bailouts happened during the middle of her political campaign for VP. I'm pretty sure she steped down as Governor prior to then. Of course she could not vote, but her running mate did go to Congress with Obama to show bipartisan support for the bailouts. Even she wasn't crazy enough to go against her own running mates position on such a major issue at that time. During her interview with Katie C. she said we would end up in a depression if we did not pass the bailout.

I believe her and Bachman get extra attention because they are women, the same way people pay extra attention to Obama because he is the first black president. I don't think the majority of her critics are sexist, nor do I think the majority of Obama's critics are racist, but I do think that they all get more attention. The more attention you get, the more you open yourself up to criticism.

Your characterization of Palin is probably pretty close. Bachmann is a helluva lot smarter than you're giving her credit for.

But I'm pretty sure she never endorsed a bailout. Keeping your mouth shut is not the same thing as an endorsement. This is what she said to Couric. It's about as weak an endorsement as you could possibly find.

PALIN: That's why I say, I, like every American I'm speaking with, we're ill about this position that we have been put in where it is the tax payers looking to bail out, but ultimately, what the bailout does is help those who are concerned about the healthcare reform that is needed to help shore up our economy, helping tho— it's got to be all about job creation too, shoring up our economy, and putting it back on the right track, so healthcare reform and reducing taxes and reining in spending has got to accompany tax reductions and tax relief for Americans. And trade, we've got to see trade as opportunity, not as— competitive— scary thing, but one in five jobs being created in the trade sector today, we've got to look at that as more opportunity. All those things under the umbrella of job creation. This bailout is a part of that.

Tina Fey parodied the interview, and used her answer word for word to this question. Fey said (paraphrasing):

Palin got lost in a corn maze noticeably struggling to find an answer and meandering between several seemingly unrelated topics such as health care, job creation, lowering government spending, international trade, and lowering taxes, ultimately not stating a clear position for or against it.

I had a hard time getting past the, my husband commanded me to become an attorney, thing. It was scary. All I could picture after that was her anti-gay dr. of a husband who looked like he's spent the last 50 yrs of his life in the closet himself, slowly turning our country into an women's rights, homophobic-theocracy.

Tina Fey parodied the interview, and used her answer word for word to this question. Fey said (paraphrasing):

"By and large, I’ve found that Tea Party activists and conservatives do not forgive Republicans who supported the bailouts — there is a lot of anger toward former President George W. Bush, and more toward former Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson. And here is what Palin said about the bailouts in her debate with Joe Biden.

John McCain thankfully has been one representing reform. Two years ago, remember, it was John McCain who pushed so hard with the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac reform measures. He sounded that warning bell.

People in the Senate with him, his colleagues, didn’t want to listen to him and wouldn’t go towards that reform that was needed then. I think that the alarm has been heard, though, and there will be that greater oversight, again thanks to John McCain’s bipartisan efforts that he was so instrumental in bringing folks together over this past week, even suspending his own campaign to make sure he was putting excessive politics aside and putting the country first."- Sarah Palin

In September 2008, McCain suspended his campaign to go to Washington to help negotiate a government response to the financial crisis, resulting in a $700 billion bailout bill.

And here is what Palin says in “Going Rogue” about the bailouts, on page 270.

[T]he House of Representatives rejected a Bush-backed economic bailout plan in a vote in which two-thirds of Republicans voted no. The impression this made on the electorate was not helpful to our cause. Millions of Americans were poised to go bankrupt or lose their savings, and the perception was that Republicans had failed to respond.

Yes, Palin Backed the Bailouts | The Washington Independent

She def. did not oppose the bailouts. Even in the last part of where you quoted her, she claims that he bailout is needed to create jobs.

I never said I agreed with her policy stances and I do think her husband is out there. But I also find it funny how many conservative women automatically get labeled as airheads merely because of their beliefs.

Pelosi has the same label. I wouldn't consider her conservative. I don't think Ann Coulter is stupid, I just think she is insane. I don't think Megan Kelly is dumb either, just heartless and scary.

The only way a woman or a black could be conservative is if they are downright stupid. That's the theory anyway.

Pelosi is her own brand of stupid. She doesn't even think questions of constitutionality are valid. That's a lot more dangerous than the brand of stupid Palin spews.
