I don't know. I do think that if Romney picked someone that was closer to a Libertarian mindset as a running mate, they would consider voting for him over Gary Johnson.
I admit . . . I laughed.Like who? His options in that respect aren't very appetizing from the perspective of trying to win a few more votes in the margin whilst not simultaneously losing a lot more votes.
Selecting Ron Paul, for example, would appeal to a small number of pseudo-intellectual types who were otherwise going to either not vote or vote for Johnson out of protest, just so they could say they did it at dinner parties the weekend after the election to try to bed the sorority girl bow head types.
But not much of that vote lurking in the swing states. And it'd cost millions of votes everywhere else when folks hear what he'd do if one day he had to take over.

She may have helped turnout a little but I'm not sure she was worth a single electoral vote.
Maybe not, but that's probably because she crashed and burned. When she was the new kid in town, the entire GOP was going ape**** for her like she was the 2nd coming. You're right that VPs rarely make a difference, but I guess I'm saying Palin showed the potential the politically expedient pick can have.
Rubio seems to be another one that people might go crazy for. Kinda like Colin Powell would've done 10 years ago.
I'm not sure Rubio would make much of a difference, even within the Hispanic community.
I think he would make a huge difference.
Problem is the base. He hasn't had enough time to distance himself from comments supporting Obama approach to immigration. Rubio would have made a better pick for Perry than Romney.
