Rap songs enter the conversation. Does that change the narrative? Something tell me you’re not familiar with Public Enemy or Tupac.

Why would rap--with which I'm familiar--enter the narrative? I'm not criticizing this song, I'm just saying that the only thing special about it is his booming, keening voice. The "woe is us and and the world" lyrics have been heard--what did I say, oh yea, 1,000 times before. If your point is that rap music is also predictable and the same, song to song, I would not disagree. Most rap/hip-hop is terrible--50 years of dumbed-down and often vulgar street music.

I don't like hardly any of the current rap, but the late 80s/90s/early 2000s were ripe with talent, before the over-produced, droning-vocal style took over.
I don't keep up with it, but I saw Kendrick Lamar several years ago and he had the late 90s - early 00's sound.

@lawgator1
For the record I listen to all sorts of music. I like country a lot. I just wasn’t feeling this song though. Nothing to do with the message…it just didn’t move me in any way so I probably won’t listen to it again.
“Try that in a small town” was written by a guy who went to the same high school I did. I don’t care for it either. I spent a lot of time in small Townsville as a kid so if I’m feeling nostalgic I’ll listen to “the boondocks” by little big town
I pulled up “try that in a small town” the other day.
It was terrible.

This song is proving to me another great litmus test on who the unsufferable twats are who are triggored by it. Think I'm gonna install it on outdoor speakers with a 24/7 loop.

what does it require to be triggered by the song? There have been a few different discussions about it. I haven't paid a lot of attention and haven't listened to it. Are you playing on your outdoor speakers because you feel a need to have other people listen to it? If so, why?

It's really bizarre that anyone is in anyway bothered by it. Makes no sense. Even if you disagree with the message.
It's also bizarre that so many are up in arms about anybody that doesn't like it. (I can't really tell that many people are actually bothered by it. This is a right-wing psyop propagated by the anti-mason nazi rocket scientists).

Oh I think the "up in arms" for those who like it is bc of the implication that folks like LG make. "You only like it bc you are a racist pos." Tends to piss people off

I haven't seen a lot of that. But sure, make the outliers the norm. It's common and I'm guilty of it, too.

What are they implying? No one is commenting on "hey song not my jam.? If the song is controversial it's bc it's being portrayed as anti minority or anti obese. Otherwise why the heck is it being discussed by those who don't like it?

All I've seen is your reference to LG and huff's posts. Doesn't seem like a huge sample, but I'm not looking for AOC's take on some random song. Doesn't seem like it's a huge deal that's worthy of right wing outrage about being dismissed. You do you though.

Tons? That would seem to be more than a bit hyperbolic.

Oops...I believe, in my haste, I overlooked the tongue-in-cheek irony in your post. Clever!

No intended irony. Most mainstream iterations of popular music genres churn out hot garbage these days.

You just have to delve into the rabbit hole on your own volition. Can't rely on Spotify discovery, pitchfork, and Anthony Fantano (j/k he's rad) for all of it.
