Compared to who? Look at what Iowa is paying Kirk Ferentz to go to the Alamo Bowl every year. Look what a certain SEC schools is paying their head coach to win the same number of SEC titles in the last 8 years as Bobby Johnson and Hal Mumme. It's today's marketplace.

That's because they're not getting what the market will bear this year. I'm sure Spurrier could have commanded his own treasury mint if he had chosen to take over at Alabama or the "U."

He took over a real mess at West Virginia. His work there convinces me he'll do just fine in the SEC.

Can't quite figure out why he decided to stay at Cock U when he could've cashed in, like you said at either of those schools. Must be the Spurrier "I'm gonna make a silk purse out of a Cocks ear" mentality...

If this is true this has to be one of the dumbest moves ever by a coach( another one Walt Harris leaving Pitt for Stanford) WHO LEAVES Pat White and Steve Slaton while they are sophomores!!!!! Comes to a school where they want a NC next year but there talent is on par with Vandy, Miss State, and Ole Miss......What a dumb move if he takes it....He should have talked to the ole ball coach, Nick Saban and all the other coaches that turned them down as to why they turned it down there fans and BOT are nuts only way I could put it......What other coaching job in america is where you come in and your on the hot seat.....dumb move just dumb

Great hire, 12. I have a lot of respect for Coach Rod. But, I don't like what I'm hearing about him telling players, etc., that he was staying. You got my running around when you broke the story until I could confirm it somewhere. ESPN is enough to convince me.

Supposedly the Gator Bowl folks have already been told that he will not coach the bowl game. I can't imagine that he would -- if you're Bama and you hire him, you need him recruiting for you right now, not preparing another school's team to play Georgia Tech.

Here's what I find astonishing, if true -- they were saying on the radio yesterday that Rodriguez has literally never set foot in Tuscaloosa before. SURELY that's not the case -- can you imagine taking a coaching job without ever visiting where you're going to be living and working?

Here is what the WV fans are thinking...

Everyone needs to take a deep breath. There is a very reliable source can not mention names that said that RR and his wife do not want to leave and there is just 1 small glich that is being worked out. They are pretty sure that Rich is not leaving and an announcement will be made by 3:00 this afternoon and for everyone to keep the faith it gets worked out. I can not tell you anymore but things look good. Go ahead drill me and tell me I know nothing but believe me I am not about to come on here and get people's hopes up like this 3 ring circus that has been going on the last week.
