Richmond is taking down Confederate statues: Is this the end for other Confederate memorials?

No historian or legal expert would agree with you. The Confederate States rebelled against the Union and then fought a war against it. Lincoln wanted to try and execute Jefferson Davis and Lee for treason.

I think your post simply is NOT accurate or true.

Replace it with nothing, why does there need to be anything?
That governor is just showing his weakness by even bothering with it - why even bring it up ? he should be dealing with all the chaos he caused shutting down the economy and costing a huge number of jobs

They've been taking that Statue down for a long time, just took these recent events to push it over the edge. I don't like Northam, he goes against a lot of my beliefs, especially with abortions and I didn't vote for him but he didn't close a lot of things in Virginia while all of this was going on. We are in Phase 2 now and with the exception of a few things like bowling alley's it looks the same as Florida does.

Legal and historical authorities disagree about most topics, certainly about this one.

The State of Tennessee held a referendum on secession, and voted against it. After Lincoln called for Tennessee to provide troops to fight against other Southern states, Tennessee held another referendum, to declare its independence. That referendum passed, and Tennessee soon joined the Confederacy. Opinions on legalities vary. There is no provision in the Constitution for a state to withdraw from it, but there is no doubt that the signers of the Constitution believed in the right of self determination. They had fought a long and bitter war, our American War for Independence, to assert that right.

Nope, they all sound like crap. McDads were much better.

Why not get private corporations to sponsor the bases like sports arenas? Generate a little revenue.

Fort Chick Fil A
Fort Papa Johns
Fort Walmart
Fort State Farm
Fort Phizer
Fort Boeing

Just give them all the same name. Wherever you go, you're in the right spot.

And that name is Robert Paulson.

Try these on for size:

Fort World Police
Fort Global Interloper
Fort Oil in your country? On my way!
Camp No Exit Strategy
AFB Leave Troops behind in Perpetuity

Better?

I think it is silly. But I don't care about any civil war statues. My life is neither improved nor worsened whether they stand or not.

Ditto, I don't think I have ever paid them much attention, and have never been on a quest to go visit and admire them.

Someone had a good idea to sell the naming rights to the bases, forts and posts. That way all of the millions upon millions of dollars it would take to change the names could be paid for.

Let’s just sanitize all our history so nobody gets offended or their feelings hurt. Once statues and monuments are gone, we can rewrite the history books with no visuals left to question the new narrative.

Since we’re determined to view the past through a lens of today, let’s take down the Lincoln Memorial because on multiple occasions Honest Abe verbalized the views of a racist and white supremacist.
Just go ahead and remove reminders of all the Presidents that had slaves (it’s only 12 or so) or racist views. Don’t forget to destroy Mount Rushmore while you’re at it.

Oh, and all those Northern folks that had slaves, any remembrance to them has got go as well.

All the battlefields need to go, all the way back to the Revolutionary War. Let’s not forget the cemeteries either. Those headstones from the Civil War and Revolutionary War, out of here because of slave owners.

Since we know how far back we need to go, where do we start removing history? Do we begin at the Civil Rights Movement and work backwards or the end of segregation, or voting rights? Wait, there’s still racism today in this country, so let’s wait until theses riots are over and work backwards from there. We don’t want to leave anybody out.

Once you open the box it becomes bottomless.

“Those who don’t know history are destined to repeat it.”~ Edmund Burke
