In Response to a 22-Year-Old’s Complaint, Merriam-Webster Revises Its Definition of ‘Racism’

Does anything mean anything or matter anymore?

We’re at a fork in the road, and at least one option leads — it seems — to total insanity.

Or maybe we’re way past that fork.

Anyway, as life and America are made over, Merriam-Webster’s getting in on the action.

What were non-slave owning Southerners fighting for? Were they also fighting for an institution they didn't practice? Or were they fighting for their states? I think slavery was a reason, but not the only reason. The majority of white Southerners did not own slaves. I think an argument can even be made that the rich slaveowners drug the non-slaveholders into the war, but we're talking about a time period where identity was defined more by state than by country. Even the Army, on both sides, was regimented by state. People saw themselves a citizen of their state before they viewed themselves as "Americans". So to list slavery as the only cause is an oversimplification and pure laziness and unwillingness to understand more was in play. There were some who fought for slavery, but there were others who were simply fighting for their homes. It's not one or the other, both are true.

Black Lives Matter and Antifa bear a striking similarity to the Inquisition in some respects. These two interrelated organizations crusade to cleanse the country of racial evil and whip up suggestible persons into declarations of faith, public demonstrations of orthodoxy, and cooperation in the defeat of a dubious heresy epidemic (“systemic racism”). Paranoia and hysteria obtains everywhere one turns. White supremacists, fascists, populists, and a dozen other varieties of illiberals lurk in the shadows, BLM/Antifa tell the faithful. The heretics must be discovered and exterminated so that America may bring History’s racially, sexually, and economically just kingdom to earth.

Paranoia and hysteria obtains everywhere one turns. Antifa domestic terrrorists, fascists, populists, SJWs, peaceful protesters, Democrats, LGBTQ+, and a dozen other varieties of libtards lurk in the shadows, Lord Red Hat tells the faithful. The Victim of the Cult Cancel Culture
These stupid turd chuggers apparently don't realize that he held the nation together to battle fascism and that if not for him, they might damn well be goosestepping and speaking German. But this has been going on a long time over there. He has been out of school textbooks there for several years.

The primary reason the first wave of states to secede was over slavery. The south had basically created a cult of white supremacy that permeated every aspect of society including religious justification for slavery. That gave poor whites status by virtue of being white. The idea of abolition threatened their status, however low. The idea of Lincoln’s opposition to popular sovereignty in the western territories threatened leaders in the south, who due to the 3/5’s clause, had amplified power in the congress relative to their population. Some, like Robert E. Lee, were opposed to secession but placed their loyalty with their state when the rubber hit the road. Others saw approaching Union armies coming to destroy their property and rightly perceived it as a threat.
The primary reason the Union invaded the south was over revenue and the fact that Ft. Sumpter gave Lincoln the spark he needed to justify it. It also gave the upper south the spark it needed to secede. Secondary was probably the idea of keeping a “perpetual Union” in tact.

Wrong, it was just a coincidence that the states that left the Union were slave states.
