Richmond is taking down Confederate statues: Is this the end for other Confederate memorials?

Nazi Germany lasted longer than the confederacy, and there are no statues of Adolf Hitler in Germany.
Hitler did, during his reign, commit genocide...and try to take over the world..and suffered defeat at the hands of the world..Germany did its best to try and erase that history.

BUT..If you go to a lot of places that were once East Germany you can find small memorials to their troops from WW2. I remember eating in a super old hotel in the Bavarian region and on the wall it had a picture of people from that town who died in WW2 and a couple were SS officers. Same thing goes in Czech Republic, Slovakia, etc, etc. I thought it odd but it wasn't glamorizing them in anyway.

I saw a confederate statue this weekend in a town in Georgia. It was just a memorial along with a slew of others from various wars fought by people from that small ass town.

You just reminded me of another point. People need to realize the difference between genocide and slavery. I've seen a few posters accuse the Confederacy of genocide. Genocide involves trying to kill an entire race or ethnicity. The Confederacy was not doing that. They were enslaving a race, which was an evil, disgusting thing, but it was not genocide.

See the protests. They are tearing down any old statue assuming they are racist. Even if the statue is of a dedicated abolitionist or a regiment of black soldiers.

It's why I have been posting in this thread. There is clear intent to not actually know the truth of the matter but instead some woke version of our history which dishonors those who actually went thru the real thing and their accomplishments.
The great majority of these people have no capacity for critical thinking or knowledge of actual history, they are just emotionally stunted and broken people

I would think drugs, ex-wives and British taxes have taken a large bite out of Mick's fortune.

Whitney Houston took "I Will Always Love You" to the top of the charts in 1992 as part of the hit soundtrack for The Bodyguard, but it was Dolly Parton who originally wrote and recorded the power ballad in the seventies. "A lot of people say that's Whitney's song, and I always say, 'That's fine, she can have the credit, I just want my cash,'" Parton quipped in 2015 (via Today).

Owning the rights to "I Will Always Love You" was so important to Parton that she even turned down Elvis Presley's request to sing her song because he reportedly wanted half the publishing rights in return. Parton told CNBC it was "one of those first really hard business decisions I had to make."

Parton clearly made the right choice. According to The Heavy, she made about $10 million off the song in the '90s. Houston's rendition held the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for a record-setting 14 weeks. Parton's original version also topped the country charts when it was released in 1974 and again when it appeared on the soundtrack for The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas in 1982, per CNBC.

Thousands Sign Petition to Shut Down Guardian over Links to Slavery, Anti-Lincoln Propaganda

The British left’s flagship newspaper is facing the call to eat its own tail, after more than 12,000 people have signed a petition calling for the liberal, pro-Black Lives Matter Guardian to be shut down over its historical links to slavery and for siding with the Confederate states during the American Civil War.

The Change.org petition to the Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO) already has more than 12,000 signatures with the number growing hourly, spurred on by accusations against the newspaper of hypocrisy for backing the far-left BLM while having a history connected to slavery.

The call comes after far-left activists have demanded the removal of statues of prominent figures in British history who may have profited from slavery, supported colonialism, or even have been wrongly accused of extremism.

Uncle Ben’s rice says ‘now is the right time to evolve the brand’

NEW YORK — The owner of the Uncle Ben’s brand of rice says the brand will “evolve” in response to concerns about racial stereotyping.

Caroline Sherman, a spokeswoman for Mars, which owns Uncle Ben’s, says the company is listening to the voices of consumers, especially in the black community, and recognizes that “now is the right time to evolve the brand, including its visual identity.”

In the wake of the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis, activists and consumers have demanded that companies take a stand against racial injustice or lose their business.

Georgia University System to review names of buildings and colleges

Georgia’s public university system will consider whether the names of any buildings and colleges at its campuses should be changed, system Chancellor Steve Wrigley’s office announced Wednesday evening.

He and Board of Regents Chairman Sachin Shailendra asked an advisory group “to review and study the names” then report “on any recommended changes,” a statement from Wrigley’s office said.

There was no explanation of what spurred the review.

A column this month in the University of Georgia student newspaper, The Red & Black, urged UGA to rid its journalism school of the Henry Grady name.

“I don’t want a degree I’m proud of earning to be associated with a dead racist,” wrote the guest columnist, a recent graduate of UGA’s College of Journalism and Mass Communication. “And neither does anyone else who values what is taught at the school.”

'White Lives Matter' sprayed on Arthur Ashe memorial

A statue of African American tennis legend Arthur Ashe on Richmond, Virginia's Monument Avenue has been vandalized with the words “White Lives Matter.”

Photos show the base of the monument tagged with white spray paint and the words “white lives matter" as well as the initials “WLM.” Those initials were then later painted over with “BLM.”

Richmond Police said they were alerted to the vandalism about 10:15 a.m. Wednesday. Police say red paint on the statue itself was already being cleaned off by community members.

The vandalism of the Ashe statue comes as multiple Confederate statues have been toppled, vandalized, and slated for removal in the city during protests prompted by the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

And the sissyfication continues. College kids? Not surprising. This generation of college kids needs safe spaces and coloring books because real life triggers their “feelings.”
