Richmond is taking down Confederate statues: Is this the end for other Confederate memorials?

"As a people we are fighting to maintain the Heaven-ordained supremacy of the white man over the inferior or colored race; a white flag would thus be emblematical of our cause"-William Tappan Thompson, editor of the Savannah Morning News in 1863
No no it’s about heritage...come on people. I am dumbfounded that people are surprised that this flag, and its soldiers, are offensive to an entire race of people they wanted to keep enslaved. That doesn’t mean Lincoln did not want to. Or that they North was ok with it in places.

Hell the north made boocooo $$ on slave labor.... Lincoln would have kept the "peculiar institution" if there was a deal to be made... always follow the money

Not sure if this belongs here or not, but here is Dan Wolken continuing his quest to be the most socially aware and biggest douche of a journalist going.
He raises a good question... should UNLV change it’s mascot? I’m sure that’s what he referring to

Oriel College, Oxford has surrendered to the mob and plans to take down a statue of one of its most distinguished alumni and most generous benefactors Cecil Rhodes.

The B&G Foods company said Wednesday it will review its Cream of Wheat brand packaging, which features a black chef, to ensure the brand did not contribute to “systemic racism.”

Same, I figured they'd release a statement and leave it at that. But this is much more far reaching than I expected from the SEC. Guess Greg will be resigning or fired soon from pressure.
I don’t know man. I think anyone is committing political suicide if you do or say anything that could possibly be interpreted as anti-progressive.

I don't expect that will be the case here. It will be the reverse, for lack of a better word.
Personally, I do think Sankey overreached on this and that this is out of bounds. There is so much reaction and particularly overreaction taking place right now that we are setting precedents that don’t need to be set. This race to see who can be the least offensive entity on the planet is going too far and too quick on certain levels . The desired result, systemic change or whatever the end game is here will be obstructed long term by these short term small Aunt Jemima kind of social justice “victories”.

Maybe you’re right. There’s going to be substantial pushback from historians and others. Sankey should’ve stayed away from this one.

I could see this being like the NASCAR deal. Initial outrage, then silence. Of course with 2020 being a general dumpster fire, it is hard to keep up with all of this crap.

remember the fires in Australia?

Kobe was 2020 too.

It will be a PhD level history class to cover all the stuff that happened in 2020.

Damn. Won't taste the same without the imagery.

Reckon I'll have to tape photos of my honey to my cream of wheat, rice, and syrup containers in order to maintain the deliciousness of my white supremacy breakfasts.
