Richmond is taking down Confederate statues: Is this the end for other Confederate memorials?

I question your intelligence for getting worked up over “the danger” and want everything to be resolved in an orderly, proper way when almost no change in this country’s history has happened that way
There's a time for outrage and there's a time for following the process. Real change has come through amending the Constitution. Slavery didn't end because we fought a war. Slavery ended with the passage of the Thirteenth Amendment. Real change comes from working within the system, not through violence and lawlessness.

Talking about “the hate I spew” while sticking up for the Klan’s feelings, you might be a little turned around here lol
Yes, the hate you spew. Anyone who isn't lockstep with your opinion you call racist. Anyone who isn't onboard with your glee for violence and vandalism you call racist. I'm not defending anyone's feelings, I'm defending their right to have them. It's called the Constitution. Individuals are guaranteed rights. Even hateful individuals such as yourself and the Klan.

It’s cute that you think the courts and “the system” were responsible for the Civil Rights Movement and the end of slavery. Don’t lose that innocent naïveté

Looks like you missed the edit:

No one is taking away anyone’s right to speak, stop making things up. You’re saying we should consider how things like equality for black people might “offend” the Klan members of the world and we should hear them out.

This is an argument that the Berlin Wall is “worse” than Confederate statues, while conveniently sidestepping the “erasing history” concern constantly spouted on here
Well you're talking about two very different things. Small statues vs a miles long wall separating countries.

Although if the "erasing history" argument has your jimmies rustled there are still parts of the Berlin Wall left standing intentionally. It hasn't physically been "erased from history". It doesn't really bother me that some statues are being removed.

I also specifically mentioned Klan members, Nazis, and Confederates. If to you that’s “everyone”, again, that’s telling

The fight for change is always about changing the system as it exists. I'd say you're the naïve one if you cannot understand that ultimately you have to work with and within the system to change it.

Never said such a thing. Now you're making **** up.

What's telling is you engaging in behavior you claim to detest. You seem to be as much a bigot as the bigots you claim to be against. No one here has argued against equality for all. Black, white, red, yellow...I do not care. All people are created equal.

Rosa Parks should have just stayed at the back of the bus and worked within the system, amirite? What a waste going to jail when she could have just asked nicely

OK, then if neither of us thinks they should be silenced and both of us think their opinions are trash and shouldn’t be given weight, why the hell are you disagreeing with me?

Rosa Parks didn't destroy property, or act out violently. She was willing to go to jail for her beliefs. She didn't wear a mask, do stupid things, and run away.

If you are accusing me of being “bigoted” against Nazis and Klan members, fine with me. Look up the paradox of tolerance

Racism? What are you talking about. Most people who lean left come from broken homes. Hence the perpetual victim status. Sociology 101, you should brush up on it.

Funny you immediately thought I was just talking about black people. There is a word for that..its on the tip of my tongue...

I know ZERO democrats who grew up with both biological parents. Zero. And I unfortunately know enough of them that it isn't some coincidence. Do they exist? Sure, but its more the exception rather than the rule.
You should widen your net a bit.

If the basis for removing a statue is outrage, then any statue that outrages anyone falls under the same rule. If one side has the right to topple statues they find offensive without consequence, then the same right is afforded to all. This isn't a battle of who can destroy more. At least it shouldn't be. If anarchy is what you want, don't be surprised when an opposing force uses the same tactics. Push long enough and hard enough, and someone will push back. Chaos is not the answer.

No, I'm accusing you of calling anyone who disagrees with your complete opinion a racist, a Nazi, a Klansman, or whatever else. No one has argued against equality. They've argued against the rampant, unchecked destruction. And when they do, you start hurling out your accusations. Even when you don't outright say it, you insinuate it. That is its own form of bigotry.

And if the basis for removing statues isn’t outrage, this whole post falls apart. I’m not worried about pushback from the Klan or Lost Causers, but you’re welcome to

Not sure if Voltaire was truly the first to say it, but I found it credited to him.

Again, you assume intentions are racially driven. And more than Confederate statues have been targeted. You're trying to narrow the argument to fit what you want to believe and ignoring that it's more widespread.

I have been referring to literal Nazis and literal Klansmen to make what should be a very basic point, that not all opinions automatically deserve respect/weight just because someone holds them. I haven’t “insinuated” that anyone else is a Nazi or a Klansman

She most certainly was working outside of “the system” though
Not really. She knowingly broke the law and was arrested for it, and in the process brought attention to an unfair rule. She didn't even set out to make a statement, she just refused to give up her seat. It was a racist policy, and by standing up to it, people took notice. How many of those out there are willing to be arrested, as she was, to make a point?

“Time and place”, “work within the system” blah blah

I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."

She broke the law and got arrested. That’s not “within the system” and never will be
