There are some speeches from later in life I've read where I was surprised by the attitude and view he took, very contrary to his earlier years. I can't remember the name but one book I read credited his devout Christian wife as the catalyst for his change in attitude. The books I've read made no excuses for Ft Pillow but let's be honest there were massacres committed by both sides but that was one of the harshest imo. That’s fair but I’ve had a hard time finding books about him. The problem is twofold imo.
1) authors that are sympathetic and excuse some reprehensible behavior ie Ft. Pillow
2) authors that have an axe to grind and excuse any positive attribute as pernicious.
I’m not saying it’s not true but due to his penchant for being involved in every cause that subjugated oppression upon blacks, I would need extraordinary evidence that he redeemed himself in regards to equality for blacks.
We should also eliminate all monuments. Anything that honors anyone should be eliminated, renamed, whatever. Just so as no one is offended.
It's time for newspeak. We need Big Brother.
So the only offense that matters is your offense? You want people to care what offends you, while not caring about what others might find offensive? No, that’s trash. Should we stop hiring black people because the KKK might be offended? Do we need to take their side of the story into account?

It's not just about Confederate statues anymore. All kinds of statues are being torn down because people are acting blindly, and ignorantly.
Anyone who thinks that Teddy Roosevelt, Washington, Jefferson, Churchill, Ghandi, and actual abolitionist statutes that are being vandalized and torn down should be, is clinically insaneIf taking down racist/slaveowner statues makes you concerned for ALL statues, that should tell you something about who we’ve chosen to honor
I question your intelligence in that you cannot seem to grasp the danger of mob rule and simply giving in to outrage rather than having conversation. I'm not against the removal of statues if decided in the proper way. I'm against angry mobs believing they should get their way just because they can. They should be taking pictures when these statues are toppled and arresting those involved. NOT because I disagree with their opinion, but because their method is unlawful. How you do something matters. If taking down racist/slaveowner statues makes you concerned for ALL statues, that should tell you something about who we’ve chosen to honor

lmao I don't agree or support the ideas of bigotry from any side, but when you start taking voices away, how long until your own is taken from you? Do you put any thought into the hate you spew? It's not about weeping for anyone. It's about everyone is entitled to freedom of speech, not just the people who say what we like. As much as I hate their message, they have the right to speak it.I noticed you didn’t answer my question. If I were trying to “both sides” everything I wouldn’t either.
No, I don’t care what Klan members, Nazis, or Confederate supporters find offensive. You can weep for those groups if you wish.
