Richmond is taking down Confederate statues: Is this the end for other Confederate memorials?

The southern states seceded from the union and many of the officers from those states resigned their commissions, not in an attempt to overthrow the US government but to form a new nation. That is not treason by any stretch of the imagination. They didn't attack the US or work to overthrow the government, they just wanted out.[/QUOTE

Like most of the revisionist history of the CSA. It's kinda right.

You are forgetting that the south did attack and steal weapons from American armories.

The CSA wanted out but failed to obtain the military strength to do so.

I'll place my knapsack on my back
My rifle on my soldier
I'll march away to the firing line
To kill that Yankee soldier

I'll bid farewell to my wife and child
And to my aged mother
And go and join in the bloody strife
Till this cruel war is over

Too bad this poor soldier was absolutely fooled and used.

Since we are posting cute
And if our Southern cause is lost
And Southern rights denied us
We'll be ground beneath the tyrant's heel
For our demands of justice

So where do you think you can go to get out from under this "tyrants heal"?

Pretty obvious this whole CSA experiment has failed. So, maybe South America? Take over a portion of a banana republic and oppress the hell out of whoever you want. You can call it states rights down there but it won't matter, because no one will care. I do suggest you bring some capable people with you. The jar of mayonnaise looking crowed that stormed the capitol won't cut it as homesteaders. They can come later after all the real work is done. Maybe the Yankee himself will give you all the money and supplies you need but then again we are back to the whole heal of a tyrant issue...geez big decisions.

Horton Foote, a Southern historian out of Memphis, said it best, "The North fought the war with one hand tied behind its back."

When you are under complete military occupation, you've received a complete ass kicking.

Please, trying to say this wasn't treason is a joke. Don't care about some random holding. The members of the Southern leadership and every member of the US military who left to fight for the South should have all been hung.
Did Horton also say he heard a Hoo?
I'd suggest that you study the form of government in place in the mid-1800's and the history of the events leading up to the war. If you can think critically, it should then be apparent to you that there was no treason and the tripe you spew today is based on misinformation. I don't know anyone who is at least somewhat educated on the subject who holds the views you espouse.

Nope, MD was end of 1864 and MO January or February 1865.
I'll take your word for it on this one. I'm not quite the expert on the Civil War as I would like to be.

Now Latter Day Saint history or Restoration movement (as some might call it) I have pretty much covered.

Calm your tatas, the war is over. Folks work within the system now rather than exercising the right to secede.

Before the South shall bow her head
Before the tyrants harm us
I'll give my all to the Southern cause
And die in the Southern army
If I must die for my home and land
My spirit will not falter
Oh, here's my heart and here's my hand
Upon my country's altar

End of reply. (Don't say this)

I'll put my Civil War knowledge against your expertise any day.

The armories were raided after the CSA was attacked. In the majority of the cases the union soldiers were given ample opportunity to evacuate and take their supplies.

Check your dates, confederates attacked union armories before Ft. Sumter. Also, shots fired first by confederates at Sumter. Keep believing the old romantic view of "the war of Northern Aggression."

I know that treason is too harsh of concept for most southern romantics and sympathizer.

Look at it from this angle. Many southern sympathizers and romantics want to complain about how evil the union was to the southern states.

The moment of succession, those states and people were no longer Americans and thus not under the Constitution.

The southern states willingly chose to succeed then got destroyed. It's really that simple.

Continuing your anti-American rhetoric.

Any thoughts on where you could start this Confederation? Or, would you rather just wine and cry about the fact it failed in America?

Succession? Your bonafides are diminishing.

Sit back and listen to some good patriotic music.

As you just posted “The moment of succession, those states and people were no longer Americans and thus not under the Constitution”. That means they couldn’t have committed treason.

You can’t have it both ways.

You could have it both ways but there is lots of nuance.

When you are not looking at the bigger picture and not looking for excuses to support Anti-American ideals then it doesn't matter which path you choose.

Is suspending habeas corpus an American idea? How about threatening to jail SCOTUS judges if they do not rule your way, is that an American ideal?

The southern states legally seceded from the US, there is no provision in the constitution preventing secession and at that time no SCOTUS ruling on the subject. What Lincoln did after SC seceded is go against the American ideals of self determination and governance.
