Rick Barnes discussion (merged)

It was not Barnes coaching, the players pissed in the bed on this one to many missed bunnies and could not throw a rock threw a window from 3. You know it has been a bad day when Uros Plasvic leads you in scoring just a total poop in the bed by the rest of team. On a good note if you think this ONE game defines our season then you should rethink where you stand by being a Vols fan. I will hang up and listen

I don't think we'll have to wait that long. After our next significant win they'll vanish, I expect.
Nah, no one will change their opinion on Barnes until he retires or goes past the sweet 16. He is what he is, some love it, and some want the program to aspire for something more

He’s gotten everything out of this program that there is to get. Folks, Tennessee basketball is South Carolina football. It can be good. Sometimes it can be really good. But it will never be elite.

Again, there’s better coaches out there than Barnes.

The main question is, are they realistic candidates?
I’ve been in arguments with people today who think we can pull Nate Oats away from Bama or Eric Musselman away from Arkansas. There are going to be a lot of disappointed folks when Barnes retires.

He’ll win enough regular season games to be in the top 15 year in and year out. Currently, it appears this is good enough to be the Head Basketball Coach at TN.

There's never been a time in our history when "top 15 year in and year out" wasn't "good enough to be the Head Basketball Coach at TN."

If your best offensive play is “throw it down to Plavsic” for a game, your game plan was probably poor.

I was hoping Phillips could really be relied on to create offense in late shot clock situations but he’s obviously not ready. ON can somewhat get decent shots in face up situations but he’s not good enough to run the offense through. Santi/ZZ/JJJ just don’t have enough athleticism and/or skill to get easy shots. If they don’t shoot 35% from 3 it’s going to be a rock fight. Like today

This is exactly what I was talking about a couple of weeks ago. This team runs a really good offense with a large group of average offensive players. But one thing we're missing is that player that can create his own shot when there's five on the shot clock, the end of the half or the end of the game. The only player we have is Ziegler, whenever he can break a defense down and get to the rack.
This is what I'm really hoping happens by the end of the season is that Phillips develops in the same way that Carmelo Anthony did and carried Syracuse in those close games. We're going to need that to make a deep run at some point.
