Rick Barnes discussion (merged)

This is what we are always going to get with CRB - a terrific defensive team and a mediocre or inconsistent - at best - offensive team. It is his body of work. It's the primary reason he doesn't make deep runs in the tournament - on random nights his offense is gonna stink. On some random nights it'll be great. On most nights it'll be OK. Tonight it stunk. Until and unless this team improves dramatically on offense, this is what we're gonna get the rest of the season: Some brilliant games, some lousy offensive efforts, and almost always a good defensive effort. Barnes is a terrific coach and I'm glad to have him, but this kind of every now and then disappointing clunker just comes with the deal if Barnes is your coach.

3 pathetic losses this year.
Hey perpetual Drama Queen, how many times in our history have we been a Top 5 team? We’ve been there as frequent under Barnes’ tenure as the previous 70 years combined. Tonight sucked, yes. But the sky isn’t falling and this team can still do great things. Try enjoying the season (if that’s possible) and quit letting your fear of any early March exit dominate your judgement.

All you want is to win every game. Good luck with those expectations.
Nope, win the ones against the bad teams. Losing to TX isnt a big deal, getting shut down by UF, Colorado, and an average UK team is a huge red flag. But continue, im sure youll be backing those up who say we cant do better when Barnes gets bounced early again.

The omen for March/April is/was already there. Most good teams have questionable conference losses, especially on the road.
You're certainly not wrong. Hopefully it's a fluke and we wind up rattling off several Ws in a row on the big stage.

By your logic then you'd have to give extra credit for those big wins against Kansas and Texas.

You were harping about March before the season even started. That's fine, but let's not pretend a conference road loss is some sort of defining factor. This is one of the highest ranked basketball teams Tennessee's ever had and you can't see it because all you care about is the opportunity to rip the coach after every loss.

Things that dont matter. College B Ball coaches are judged by what they do in March

Neither has won it all. That's the point. Only 1 team cuts down the nets and for fans, there's no difference between a 2nd round exit and a 2nd place exit.
You serious Clark? You don’t see a difference in multiple final fours/NC games and Rick Barnes’ annual early round exits?

I don’t care what anyone says he can’t recruit for **** and we just lost to a team that could barely beat Martyville college. I want the geriatric man gone. He couldn’t win with KD. I respect and are thankful for what he’s done. It’s time he pursues diapers. You don’t lose to an un ranked rival like that. I won’t watch another game. Yes 🙌 know the orange colored glasses and suck asses will support this loser as we have done for the past 30 years

Phillips seems to be an aggressive offensive player.. When Vescovi was out with his shoulder the reigns was taken off Phillips and he flourished... When he is on the court with Vescovi he is hesitant and doesn't seem to know his role... He isn't being used properly to the skill he has... Plays with no confidence at times cause he looks confused in his role

Some good teams didn't even have to go on the road to get a questionable conference loss. #1 Houston lost at home to a 12-9 Temple team. A Temple team with losses to Wager, Penn, & MD-Eastern, among six others. A top-five Kansas State team that lost on the road to a now 11-12 Butler team. We all know what Oklahoma just did to Al. It looks to be a wide-open March Madness. May the chips fall in our favor.

Then why are you on here raging in February?
Can’t beat the FREAK! They don’t know their history. Barnes led teams have been ranked in the top 5 as much as ALL THE TEAMS IN THE HISTORY of Vol Bball. EVER. He has the program healthier than it’s ever been after being on life support 7 years ago. They won the SEC tournament last year. I wish we’d block all the negative Nancy crybabies.
