His narrative that Barnes loses to garbage teams in the tournament is laughable. We all know Barnes has struggled in the tournament, but he hasn’t lost to a “garbage team” in the tournament since he got here.

Loyola Chicago: made the Final Four
Purdue: regular season Big Ten co-champ and benefited from a game changing, garbage foul call on Lamonte
Oregon State: Elite Eight team and conference tournament champ of a P5 league
Michigan: preseason top ten team for a very good reason. They had some dudes on that team.

There’s no denying we should have won a couple of those games, but it’s laughable to say that any of those teams were garbage.

No it's not, it's because he doesn't win in March.

If he won in March and lost tonight, nobody would care that much. It's crappy loss but it's not a season ender and ultimately may mean nothing at all. If we won tonight and we still lost before the Elite 8, people would still give him hate.

It depends on how we respond. We beat Auburn Saturday, and especially if we win the next 2 then Alabama, nobody will give a crap. Of course we have to go to Rupp after that and I'll go ahead and say that's probably an L for a lot of reasons (so we'll suck again obviously).

But if we lose Saturday and struggle or even lose to Vandy or Mizzou then yeah....things might go south on this season real quick.

Regardless of what we do in the NCAA tournament, Barnes has made us relevant in basketball. He is a great ambassador for the university and is a program builder. He can coach here as long as he wants in my opinion. Doesn’t mean we can’t question him at times but still the overall level of play for years has been impressive. I hope we can break through at some point in March and this team should be one which can do it, although losses like this, makes one pause. That Loyola loss as well, we don’t lose that game if we had Alexander. I know “ifs and buts” …we always seem to suffer from things which haunt us for ever. (Much like the call against Purdue).

I'm as mad as everyone about the loss tonight but it wasn't Barnes, literally NOBODY showed up. If everyone is that bad at shooting, I don't know what Barnes is supposed to do.

And these same people will be b****in if we get another Buzz Peterson and suddenly have nostalgia about the Barnes' days, just like some of those that were calling for Fulmer's head who turn around and tried to do a 180 later about how we forced Fulmer out too soon.

Ah, yes, Barnes wins a good majority of the games played in the regular season, but because the team shot like garbage tonight, let's act like the sky is falling and call for Rick's job! These idiots are quiet for months but when one loss happens, its their cue to fire Barnes! One loss to Florida in the regular season means our season is over, there isn't anything to play for anymore!! Forget about the ncaa tournament, it does NOT matter now.

Dumbest fan base in the galactic federation, embarrassing.

Tennessee football fans are soooooo toxic when it comes to other sports

I’m glad that I wasn’t on VN when Bruce’s 31-4 team was blasted by Louisville 60-79 in the 2008 Sweet 16.

Speaking of hate...regular season doesn't matter UNTIL it does because it can be used hate on CRB and the team...lol. You would catch a lot less grief if you would stick to a base position of regular season success doesn't matter unless you make a NCAA tourney run to E8 or better.

When Barnes retires it should be a top 10 job that will attract top 10 coaching talent and if it goes smoothly we shouldn't fall off much. Hopefully Barnes and White will work together on a transition.

I too get frustrated by seeing a good Vol team go down again, but realize that there's not that much difference in talent over all in any of the SEC schools. Any team can knock off another on any given night. I also look at Bruce Pearl who rants and raves, screaming at his players on the sidelines the entire game, and they are just as beatable as any other SEC team. I wished Barnes could make adjustments during a game when his game plan is not working. Maybe work on outside shooting over and over to become more consistent
