Rick Barnes discussion (merged)

Some good teams didn't even have to go on the road to get a questionable conference loss. #1 Houston lost at home to a 12-9 Temple team. A Temple team with losses to Wager, Penn, & MD-Eastern, among six others. A top-five Kansas State team that lost on the road to a now 11-12 Butler team. We all know what Oklahoma just did to Al. It looks to be a wide-open March Madness. May the chips fall in our favor.

Wasting your breath. People like to be miserable.

Phillips seems to be an aggressive offensive player.. When Vescovi was out with his shoulder the reigns was taken off Phillips and he flourished... When he is on the court with Vescovi he is hesitant and doesn't seem to know his role... He isn't being used properly to the skill he has... Plays with no confidence at times cause he looks confused in his role
I think they misuse him offensively. Rarely run anything for him. He only got 4 shots today and is seemingly less involved in the offense every game.

You serious Clark? You don’t see a difference in multiple final fours/NC games and Rick Barnes’ annual early round exits?

I see the exact same difference. The only difference is the level of complaining. Folks here are complaining of Barne's early-round exits, and Gonzaga fans are complaining of Few's late round exits. Both groups complaining neither coach can win it all. Combined titles = 0. Folks can't complain. "Barnes will never win it all" while also acting like it's different with Few when he too... has literally never won it all. Just my opinion.

It's always nice to come to this thread after a loss and see how many posters care so deeply about UT Basketball 😁

I would like to have even a little bit of what they have to complain about

He is one of the top 6 paid coaches in the NCAA... Yes he has us relevant and hard to complain with being in the mix multiple years... Just think the fan base wants to break thru and for Barnes as well... I think it's fair criticism... Nobody should be calling for his job lol... Just want to take the next step or more

Exactly.... He is our most skilled guy... He trusted him when Vescovi was out and could tell he put him in a more aggressive role... Just doesn't mesh with Vescovi offensively for some reason

Wouldn't we all! For what it's worth, I think the argument does change once you get there (Final 4) consistently, but both arguments are the same - "They never win it all." A fandom rooted in an all-or-nothing mentality (in any sport) is a miserable position to be in. It's setting you up for constant disappointment and ripping joy away from moments that should otherwise be cherished. Enjoy the ride, not the destination. It will make us cherish the pinnacle, even more, when we do get there.
