So does this seem like another Sweet 16 team in your opinion or a team that will make a deep run? Knecht seems like the dude that can takeover a tournament a la Stephen Curry but he has a better team around him. This feels like a Final 4 team to me. I won’t be upset even if they don’t make it due to the randomness of the tournament. Will you be upset if we can’t make it past the Sweet 16???

Just poking fun at some of the Barnes haters and digging at Lecter a bit. Barnes is a helluva coach and as a recruiter, he knows the type of kid he wants and he's got our program to a rock solid position and running with the big boys of CBB. Anyone who saw the defense we put on the floor today can't be anything but impressed. Now that he's got the offense to go with it, UT will be a tall, rocky hill to climb come tournament time. This might be the most complete, deepest team Barnes has assembled at UT. We might not make the final 4 or even the elite 8, but I certainly won't be surprised if we do.

I will be disappointed if they don’t make it past the sweet 16. This team is so talented and it’s time for a CRB team at TN to take that next step. Not saying it’s easy or that if they don’t I’m out on CRB. Just saying I expect more from this team.

Anyone that expects anything in the NCAAT clearly doesn’t realize what that tournament is. It’s a best of 1 and no second chances tournament. What other high profile tournament has that type of format? You don’t have to look it up, it’s the only one. Even the NCAAT in baseball is a best of 3. Basketball should adopt a similar format because it is a random sport as well. Not nearly as much as baseball but it is very random.

On a different note, I haven't paid attention to this thread, but Barnes is 69 years old. Apologies if this has been talked about a lot previously, but how much longer do we think to have the guy, realistically? I can't believe it's more than 3 years.

Coach K retired at age 75. Have to think Barnes has a determination to get to that age. I could see him coaching until 2029-2030.

Know I joked about him pulling a Saban and English being in wait, but Barnes doesn't look like he's slowing down to me. He's surprised me with how he's approached and used the portal. I never thought Barnes would get along with a guy who played defense like Knecht no matter how good he was on offense. Not that Knecht is bad, but he's not that elite defender Barnes demands. Shows me he's capable of change and he's adjusted his system to fit and take advantage of the players on the roster. Some will continue to knock on Barnes, but I suspect we'll really miss him once he does step down. Guy will be very, very hard to replace.

I agree with everything you just said. I have watched the last 10+ years and been disappointed every year. I just feel like this team is different because they have several players that can go out and get a basket when you need it. Like I said, I will be disappointed if they don’t make a run past the Sweet 16, but I do realize how difficult it is.

Easy in this case...it's those who incessantly, for YEARS, use any loss or other perceived negative to reinforce their asinine opinions which really just boil down to them either wanting somehow to be right (because they said stupid things in the past which deny the reality that CRB is a great coach and our program is as good, if not better, than it has ever been) or they wish to continue the charade of being a concerned fan (e.g., trolls).

And, yes, there are valid points of criticism to be had about the program/team/coaches but these posters almost never disappoint in that they opt for silly takes instead.

Gonna be fun to watch the spin and moving of goalposts if CRB gets us to the E8 or beyond (which many are projecting for this year as you know) and he matches the great Coach Pearl's NCAA success at UT.
