Rick Barnes discussion (merged)

I think most fans would be a little.
I think they make the elite 8, maybe FF depending on how the rest of the bracket goes.
Barnes has been to the Elite 8 and FF. I can still say he's a sweet 16 coach. Also, and I know this will shock a lot of people, I love Barnes and want him to stay for a long time and I'm glad the program is a Sweet 16 program with occasionally going to the elite 8.
But people would already know that by reading my OP and stop hearing what I didn't say.
This is the best Tennessee team they have had in a few years. The biggest difference is depth and a very good offensive player who can score from any place on the court.

Hopefully, we can get to the round of 16 or maybe past it this year.
LMAO

"Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt"

You do realize we have made the S16 last year (for the 2nd time under CRB) without our All SEC guard? And you do realize that CRB's tourney success is tracking perfectly with Pearl's? And I guess you somehow forgot that "getting past the S16" has only been done once in our entire school history but the odds say we do it this year?

Actually, I do, but thank you for providing easily found facts which have nothing to do with what I wrote. Regarding your last comment which you made a question, I did not say the odds say we do it this year and do not know that anyone has. Most of all, odds are simply that. They are no guarantee of anything. I said I hoped we could get to at least the second game, but even more would be great. It would be great if our coach could surpass the best results in history for the team.

Also, I am not sure what the lmao and better to remain silent have to do with what I hope happens.

Explain in detail, with some nuance, your label of a "sweet 16 coach". Please

The guy that's been coaching almost 40 years and has made it past the sweet 16 3 times.

That being said this is an awesome team, DK is amazing. This could be the year.
That first paragraph is detailed and nuanced? 😉 Bless your heart, and I know you love the Vols. The NCAA is such a a crapshoot. Success in the marathon of a regular season, especially in power 5, reflects the very best teams. The NCAA should be best of 3 from Sweet 16 through Final four

I agree and I wish it was. I hope it happens in our lifetime. CFB is unrecognizable from what it was 20 years ago, maybe it's time to start switching things up CBB. I would love a best of 3.

I think the challenge with that is that the tourney in its current state generates crazy amounts of money. As long as the NCAA is in charge of the tournament, it won’t change.

I don’t disagree with you, though. A best of three setup with less teams would be the better way of determine who is really the best team.

Missed your reply initially since you did not quote my post. Your post, given the nature of this thread's content, read to me as being sarcastic and based on the tired mantra (as it is overly simplistic or conceived from agenda) that CRB's coached teams can't get it done in the tourney and can't advance past the first weekend which is why I responded with the facts to the contrary. If you were truly just randomly posting you hope we make it to the S16 (again for 3rd time under CRB) or beyond then please disregard my reply as I misunderstood your intent.

I can certainly be sarcastic and it has been disappointing that basically since about 2006, we should have made the sweet 16 practically every year and even gone further more than once no matter who our coach was or is. It's time for it to happen. I am still not that sure we are at that point.

We need to learn to act more like Duke, NC, and even sometimes KY and win games that we should win (ala Miss St. who got beat a couple of days later by Ala. who we hammered. Forget all of that tough road game crap. The big guys over time have had less problems than we did no matter who the coach is. We can do the same and I believe should have over the last 17 or so years more.

I like us better this year because we can score more than 59 a game most of the time. Hopefully, we can get things in line, stop running around in the last minute or so and jacking up whatever and pull out close games. Better yet, not even be close in games that we should just win like the big guys have done. I want to stop having that problem like we have had in the past and go for it all. Same as in football.

You obviously haven’t watched what’s happening around the landscape of college basketball.

All the “Big Guys” have lost games this year.

Your knowledge of college basketball is lacking big time.

Act like Duke? You should have never hit the "post" button.

Yikes...not sure where to start. Guess I'll just ask you to explain your rationale that we should have made the S16, or better, every year since ~2006? Please cite which teams have been to the S16 or better for ~18 years (hint: very few if any).

Coupla different ways of looking at it.

On the positive side, half of the final 16 get past.

Right now taking the step from S16 to the E8 might be just a little bit easier. 4 of the Blue Bloods (UK, KU, Dook, UNC) have come back to the pack just a bit, UCLA, Louisville, and Nova are struggling, Cuse isn’t the same, Indiana still hasn’t approached their past glory, Zags have taken a step back, Michigan, Michigan State, and tOSU are far from their historic best. There are opportunities for a new wave of elites (Houston, Purdue, Houston).

UConn and Purdue might be the teams you want in an opposite bracket this year.

You're clearly aware that road games are tough. As a matter of fact, a stat was shared pretty widely this weekend that AP top 10 teams are 17-27 on the road this year against unranked teams. I think it's more like 18-28 now since we won at Vanderbilt and Auburn lost at Mississippi State. Either way, that means AP top 10 teams are only winning at a ~40% clip on the road against unranked opponents. That's nuts, but it's true.

Are you suggesting that all we have to do to overcome this very well-defined trend is "forget that tough road game crap"? I mean, I want to give people the benefit of the doubt, but that's just a totally unserious thought.

One guy's theory on parity said that the three point line is the great equilizer of course but also teams have more than one or two guys like they did in the past that can get hot and shoot a team into an upset. Seems like everybody has long range shooters coming off the bench at every position. Kind of makes sense if you think about it.

Bring back Cuonzo!
Yeah give me a team that has a chance to win EVERY night and I will live with the results of the tournament. Not only do you get that with Barnes but you also have a coach with as much integrity as any in the business and his players always make you proud their a volunteer.

I don’t know. Those Wade Houston and Buzz Peterson teams were a real hoot to watch. (Blue font)

Everyone getting ready for 3 game losing streak? I’m sharpenin’ my pencils so I can come back to roast Holly Barnes or Rick Weakley again 😂😂😂 btw this team is EFF’ed if white mambo gets hurt again
