Rick Barnes discussion (merged)

That really wasn't a lot, but perhaps you attended public school. Additionally, it would be great to hear why this university basketball team cannot get to be like teams who have been quite good over time, but it's great because we love our coach. If you don't want to do that, please tell us how you enjoy hanging on your fav coach's nuts so that we can experience the joy of that kind of love since I am not reading that performances like we just saw were cool with any other coach that has led the team.

In summary, it has absolutely nothing to do with who is the coach. It is about getting out in front and being the best. Perhaps it may not conclude with winning it all, but it will be quite obvious that the team was fighting for every inch.
Please reread the last “sentence” of your first paragraph. Now, realize that you just insulted someone else’s intelligence before typing it. Let it simmer. Goodnight.

You typed a ton to say basically nothing here. This is a bad loss no doubt, but sometimes 20 year olds just don’t play well. It happens to everyone. Sucks that it happened at home with so many chances to win, but it happens. We move to Saturday.
We will have to play a lot better Sat. at Ky or we will get blown out, not just beat. Are we capable of winning at Ky. yes, depends on which UT team shows up.

Team shows up flat with no heart. Loses a game they should win. It happens every year. Every NCAA tournament. We'll win some huge games with Rick but seems his teams can't shake this curse. Barnes is a great coach 95% of the time. But we always have these monster let down games every year. At least that's the way it seems to me.

Bill Self is a great coach only 91% of the time. Calipari is at 84%.

What in tarnation is wrong with going to “public school”.

That is the joke part of the comment back from the 80s etc.

Also, I graduated from a public school, the University of Tennessee right here in Knoxville. However, they did not teach reading comprehension from what I understand.

I wonder if he realizes the school that he is posting in a fan site for is a public school.
Yes, and nice dig unless you are dumb enough to really think I don't know that. I noticed you do not have anything to say about wanting to have an excellent team over the years no matter who the coach is. We were working for that in football for some time and hope we are doing it again. We were working toward it in the 80s in basketball and then it fell for a pretty long time. Had a class with Alan Houston though, but Lisa Harrison was the prettiest in the classes I had.

I would love to see my school get great in both and keep it up. Baseball and women's bball also along with the other teams. Sports are there to play your hardest, work to be the best, and maybe win it all no matter who your coaches are or who plays on the team. I think one good example is about a player. Peyton Manning was a great quarterback, but Tee Martin led us to the top. I did not want to give the national championship to Manning over Tee. They were both awesome.

You’re living proof they don’t teach English composition.
Sure thing buddy. Send me the proper composition and please correct any grammar and spelling errors as I seek to be perfect when I post on a message board.

Otherwise, I'll assume your just talking and can't back it up because you still will not take some time to logically explain why there is a problem with trying to be one of the best ever no matter who the coach is and wanting the staff and team to get better and be consistent like say a Coach K Duke team which is where I've been going with my comments. I was not a big Duke fan at all, but you had to respect it. We certainly have talked about trying to be the best in football here over the years and we will likely continue to do it. We should be able to do it in basketball and I think it would be great if our bball coach can push us higher. Same for baseball and so on.

It seems like some here just don't like the fact that Pearl was pretty good and feel some sort of pain because they seem to think our present coach is being dissed. What I would like to see is greatness whoever our coach is. The old teams could have been better, but that was then. Let's get better in the future which for basketball starts at practice later today.

And if you want to compare abilities, intelligence, etc. I'll be happy to see if I can dig up my records from high school.

Before Barnes, when was the last time Tennessee was consistently a top 25 program for this length of time?

Which past coach has taken UT to the dance 6 times in a row?

Who would you hire if you could fire Barnes?

You can’t hop on this thread and bash bash bash without offering any solution. It’s a cheap, weak path to take..

Besides the usual Pearl nut huggers and trolls, nobody is wishing for Barnes to get fired.

This thread only gets bumped when we lose.

People just dont understand basketball.... dont understand how difficult it is and how much goes into winning 6 games in a row against the best 64 teams. Coach K considered one of the best didnt win it all with 3 top 5 nba draft picks..... Cal has had x amount of nba players and struggled. You see the product of barnes teams top 10 team this year and have a chance to do something special if they come together at the right time. In the tourny though it just takes one bad shooting night or one team getting really hot and your going home. Just enjoy the season and we will see what happens in the tourny... everyone praises what Muss has done at ark and they was considered top ten team coming into the year and look what they are doing..... i get pissed watching them too but that south carolina team played like a team that got snubbed by the ranking committee monday. They got better looks at the goal than we did all night long. Energy felt off before the game also... I think the news dropping of the University being under investigation really had a negative affect on the over all mood of the team. We can say the Ncaa has no leg to stand on and plowman really gave it to them but it still has an affect. I think were fine and we will stick it to them but the energy was 100% off last nite mixed with a good SC team that felt disrespected for the 2nd week in a row.

I am not saying fire Barnes. Even Coach K, etc. is not going to win the national championship every year. Why do people think that? Those high end coaches who sometimes were in better leagues than the SEC back in those days had teams that were more consistent.

All I have been saying is that we need the best out of players and coaches. I happily admit that I want a great coach with great players and to go deep in the tournament every year because that is what it takes. We do not have that yet. We have a tournament team and that is quite good. We have a darn good coach. We simply need to be better.

Forget the stupid NCAA and their "work to make the game great". They are full of it with their religious like attitude which is fake BS. They are dying anyway and should have been eradicated years ago letting their favs in football, basketball, etc. do what they wanted and then taking it out on lesser schools. Remember Roy Williams' NC team. Oh, it's ok because we allow the whole school the opportunity to do that with their classes. Yeah right. I'm sure a basic Joe could do what those bball players were doing.

We have gotten better on offense this year, but I am not going to be satisfied with ~59 point games. Say what you want, that I hate Barnes, etc., be dumb about it and accept things as they are. I am glad we have been to the tournament 6 times in a row. I simply want to go deep consistently. We cannot lose to teams like we have in 2 of the last 4.

Love your guy. I will love the wins and going for it all. And for those who think this is about Pearl, you are dumb if you think that about me. I wanted Pearl to do the same thing. Heck, I wanted Devoe to do it.

If you really know college basketball, then you know these kinds of games happen. No one is satisfied with 59 points, but that's an anomaly, which again, is part of a marathon season. Other teams play well too

Thanks for repeating something that people have been saying time after time after time. If you think we should be the 5th rated team inthe country and do that two times out of four games against teams that are really just not the best by any imagination, then you go ahead.

If you have time, though, please let me know how Coach K would have dealt with that, if he even had to, basically for most of his career after the first season.

I'm not concerned about Coach K. I'm glad we have Barnes

Great comeback, genius. It's about being great which Duke was (their coach had a lot to do with that like bammer's just retired coach) like them or not (and I don't except when Laettner drills it home and knocks off the cats nor do I like the gumps). I think UT can with Coach Barnes and I mean I think we could win it all if we will get focused as close to all the time as possible. The talent is there and the coach is good enough to do it too.

You be happy with maybe 2 games in the tournament. After all, at least we got to the tourney. Take your participation trophy and have fun.

I will keep wanting it all.

Do 3 of the 4 Final Four teams and 4 of the Elite Eights get participation trophies?
