There was no 2020 NCAAT and COVID disrupted that entire season. You don’t know that Barnes wouldn’t have won the SECT that year. He’s been to 3 of those finals. The same number as all other UT coaches combined have been to since it returned in 1979.

You sure are angry about the current state of UT BB. Especially considering that the program continues to move into rarer air by so many metrics. Hardly any year has been going by without new, higher achievements. The NCAAT is just one measure and a very flawed one at that. Single elimination. Protected programs. Cinderella story lines being promoted for ratings. Injuries. Draws established for TV. Higher seeded teams not having home court advantages. Inconsistent, sometimes horrible officiating. I prefer to have a high level program over an extended period of time over having a hot streak in a short span in March if it’s an either / or scenario.

Barnes isn’t perfect. There is fair criticism of him. The criticism that comes from the drive by posters, though, is normally pretty comical. At worst, the man is the third best coach this program has ever had. There’s an argument to be had that he’s the best or second best.

It’s been disappointing that we’ve not made a special run in the tournament. Are there some things Barnes could have done better in the tournament that may have at some point yielded better results? Probably. I think that’s fair to say. It’s true for just about any coach.

Regardless, looking only at tournament results is nonsensical as it is only part of the picture. We’ve won 25 games in four of the last six seasons. That kind of success isn’t a guarantee. This is a golden age of Tennessee basketball, and some of our “fans” are going to moan and groan their way through it.

Laughable that you are making a comparison to UConn. They’ve had nearly a dozen #1 or #2 seeds. Around one every 4 years. TN has had how many? 1? Ever?

Laughable that you fail to realize they have not had a 1 or 2 seed since 2009 yet still have three national titles under two head coaches in that timeframe as a 3,7, and 4 seed. Hang a banner Barnes…that simple…Final Four or better. At this point in his tenure that is what it will take. You keep making excuses for why we fail in March…it falls on deaf ears. It’s funny that the posse in here can not take any critiques of Barnes constructively and think we automatically hate the guy. He can be a good coach and still need improvement. Just because all of you live in here and post all the time doesn’t mean the rest of us don’t watch every game and know what’s going on.

UConn’s been seeded 1-4 14x. They built a program before peeling off championships.

TN isn’t necessarily a fail in March. They’ve been to 3x SECT championship games and Barnes has won 50% of his NCAAT games. Something that only Cuonzo (75%) and Bruce (57%) have done better. Bruce was only 8-6. Cuonzo was 3-1.

There are 100 other teams that could reasonably make it to a final 4. Most would be thrilled to have UT’s current program.

We were not going to the NCAA tournament when the tournament was cancelled due to covid....We were NIT bound.

Florida Atlantic, San Diego State, and Miami won’t be 3 of 4 Final Fiur teams. Loyola-Chicago won’t get to a Final Four. Texas Tech and San Diego State will never play in NCAAT championship games. Butler will never play in back-to-back championship games. Wait…

Point is, there was not an NCAA Tournament in 2020 and Barnes shouldn’t be penalized for an opportunity that didn’t exist. Like that angry guy posting all over this thread is doing.

Which optimal opportunities...the one where we lost our All SEC PG before the tourney or the one where we lost our only rim protector or the one where a ref made a horrible call with a couple seconds on the clock to send a kid to the line to win the game? Please enlighten us.

Those aren’t “excuses” as some of the dolts like to repeat. Those things are horrible bad luck at the worst possible time. Another is losing JJJ with his injury as he was possibly playing the best ball of his career.

As for hate for our coach, I have not expressed any despite people like you thinking I did. I do not answer for others and what they think.

Also, we have determined that you love the personality and as long as UT makes it to the tournament, you are ok with the person you love. I guess you believe we will never have another coaching staff or team that will be great.

Therefore, No need to make the run as we should just love it while it lasts because it will never get this good again.

By the way, I made as I recall an incorrect statement previously that I would have thought a smart guy like you would catch. I said 2 dumb losses in 4 games. It was six games. You should have caught it being on top of the knowledge game as you are.

Seek therapy.
