No matter how often “scoring droughts” are disproven with stats, someone still pops up and says, “but I saw it”. Last year after we put 90 on Gonzaga, the masses rushed in to get us ready for the “scoring droughts”. We would not do that in the season, not against Wisconsin. Then we scored 80 on them. We put up over 90 on ranked UK and #3 Alabama. But that was Knecht… Before that, we whined about scoring during Chandler, and before that we had “droughts” with Grant who played on the #2 offense in the country. Basketball is a game of streaks. That isn’t just us. It’s everyone. We won and lost games with dry spells and our favorite guy Bruce has some of the longest dry streaks of any team.Look, I’m also in the wagon of Barnes not being able to carry us to the promise land. It’s something about his offense and the scoring draughts we see randomly happen all year and then in the tournament. However, this was a freaking exhibition game. This game was all about quality practice reps and players who haven’t played together before getting used to playing together in a game environment. It’s going to be okay.
Rick is 20 times the coach Bruce pearl ever has been. I just hope we can get hot at the right timeNo matter how often “scoring droughts” are disproven with stats, someone still pops up and says, “but I saw it”. So many people forgot how frustrating Pearl's offense would be after the Lofton years. I remember so many people on here complaining about it on here back when I was only a lurker. No matter how often “scoring droughts” are disproven with stats, someone still pops up and says, “but I saw it”. We blew our Final Four by losing to Kentucky at home to end the regular season…if we won that game we would not have been in Purdue or UConns region…we were the third best team in the country. Instead we blew it like normal and were awarded the Purdue regional while one of our most hated rivals (Alabama) went to a final four before us and has a top 5 team this season. Elite eight was a nice run but that was a final four team, they didn’t make it, a hated rival did. So ultimately season should have been better. Like most if not every season before it.Also, the Elite 8 was great for us and this school, but ultimately nobody remembers Elite 8 teams or cares. It's Final Four or higher. Otherwise it's like Butch Celebrating winning the TaxSlayer bowl. Champion of Life energy.
He hasn’t been the only coach to “ raise” the floor. I am confident that we will keep trying coaches like we always have and will eventually hit on another good one. We may go through 3-4 trying though. When you have the money and facilities we do, there is almost no excuse to not be a top 20 team. Those of you that didn't experience the decline of the program after DeVoe was fired have no idea how much Barnes has raised the floor of our program.
Appreciate him while he is here because there is no guarantee we'll find a replacement that is half the coach he is, IMO.

If you think being able to fill a 20k arena is something everybody has or can do then you are simply lying to yourself. Outside of teams that have won multiple national championships there should be no school consistently better than us.Having “money and facilities” is nothing special anymore. Everybody has that now.
Agreed. Getting embarrassed in the first SEC game against Miss St. certainly didn't help either. We blew our Final Four by losing to Kentucky at home to end the regular season…if we won that game we would not have been in Purdue or UConns region…we were the third best team in the country. Simply…if you have a Final Four team and don’t make it’s not a great year.

Those weird games like MsSt happen but Uk was a bad basketball team and we knew exactly what we were playing for and the chance to sweep Kentucky doesn’t occur many times either. Oh well…rinse and repeat. Barnes has done everything you need to do except for the 1-2 over the hump postseason runs. Problem is that in this sport that is what people remember and what counts the most. I don’t make the rules. People also want to say draw matters and it definitely does but we could have controlled not playing the two teams most capable of beating us. People like to throw that out to help their narrative, then try to say mediocre teams make final fours all the time because of draws to try to discredit it. Well we had the bracket fall to us with Barnes, the absolute easiest road to a Final Four ever and we blew it to friggen Sister Jean. I don’t care how we get there, be a 1 seed and dominate or be an 8 seed and have a magical ride. JUST GET THERE! Barnes that’s your only job, the conference titles are fun.Only the school that wins that cares. When you go into Rupp arena do you think they have conference title banners for the million they have…No…they have Final Four, NCAA Finalist, and NCAA champion Banners.Agreed. News flash….Postseason runs are what everybody cares about including the best of the best. Now go count the top 25-35 college basketball programs and tell me how many don’t have a final four in school history….smdhNews flash. Kentucky’s basketball program is arguably the best ever. TN’s history was around #35 until Bruce and Barnes moved us up about 10 spots.

He hasn’t had three teams capable of a Final Four run? So blame everybody else except for the guy who has had more chances than anyone else…sounds reasonable…hahaha…I blame everybody and right now Barnes gets the blame. When we moved along, then the next guy will get his share when he doesn’t get it done. Everybody is accountable. Barnes is one of them..sorry.TN doesn’t have a FF because of past neglect while the NCAAT grew into its current form. Blaming Barnes is pure ignorance.
