Rick Barnes discussion (merged)

? When have I said he didn't do anything wrong? I've never said he didn't, what he did just wasn't a big deal.

Throwing your own assistants under the bus, lying to the NCAA and his boss, getting kid’s parents to lie for him, isn’t a big deal?

The violation itself wasn’t a big deal. Him trying to cover it was stupid.

Rick Barnes has been a member of our Emerald Youth Foundation almost since he arrived here, and has served as an active trustee. He fundraises, attends planning meetings - does a lot for the organization in the early hours when most people aren't awake yet. Definitely not just lending his name - although the yearly golf fundraiser bears his name. A genuinely nice man - you should see how he interacts with the youth and the staff. EYF people think he's a saint. You can't fake that kind of dedication to young people.

I just asked what the situation was. To fans wasn't really the point I've heard about anyways. It's more to his higher ups and boosters. That he's just really difficult to deal with.
I feel like I have heard that TX’s boosters are very overbearing according to recent basketball and football coaches

He refuses to play Freshman…
Chandler 31/40 minutes
Zeigler 27/40 minutes

Am I missing something on that point? And I’m not sure why people keep saying he “seems” like a good person. I’ve met Rick multiple times and talked to many that have played for him. Not a single person has had a bad word to say about Barnes. That’s a fabricated story line.
It’s not only fabricated, it’s preposterous. Some might want to call “being direct” as being difficult and hard to get along with. It’s telling someone the truth to their face and it actually takes a lot of effort to do this. Pat Summitt was the most direct coach I’ve ever witnessed, and those that knew her well know she was an honest truth teller. Barnes is along those same lines.

This could be a thing as well. Not arguing that side either.
You have a narrative that you openly propagate. For whatever reasons, you have this utter distaste for Barnes that is beyond normal. You say you like the Vols, but those reading your stuff severely doubt your words. There are some people who always criticize and always live in negativity, and maybe that’s just you. How about considering the idea that maybe you would be willing to share your thoughts without the constant bashing? We all know your feelings, as that’s been well-established. When you repeat the same stuff over and over and over again, you’re antagonizing people. I think we ALL agree this team has some severe limitations and hopefully we improve. Let’s all be more open-minded to supporting the Vols first and foremost without constantly hammering home the negatives.

Like I told someone else, I dont like Barnes, but if I wanted the Vols to lose, would I really bet my own money on them?

I didn’t accuse you of that. I think you want them to win.
Ok then. Is this not a forum for TN Basketball? Is Rick Barnes not the coach for TN basketball? Seems like the coach of the basketball team in which the forum you are currently in would be on topic, is it not?

Who one gambles on is not a testament to who they like, at least not if you're serious about trying to win money. I love the Vols, but I wouldn't be stupid enough to bet money on them to beat Bama.

I put something on them pretty much every game. On long shot games, I bet very little just in case. On other games ill bet whatever my normal is.

Instead of betting on our VOLS, how about you go meet and talk with Rick Barnes personally ... and then come back and tell us all about it.
