Rick Barnes discussion (merged)

You seem to take great pleasure from TN not winning as long as Barnes is the head ball coach, Bubbles.
Youve missed the mark big time if thats what you think. Go back to the drawing board.
If I enjoyed them losing as much as you think, I wouldnt have messed with my sleep schedule as much as i did to watch last night game. I also wouldnt have put them in my parlay to win like I did. You think I wanna lose money?

Not quite there bub. Good try though.
Also idk where some of yall get this idea, but just because I hate Barnes doesnt mean I want them to lose. Ive said time and time again id love for him to prove me wrong.
Why do you “hate” Barnes? Hate is such a strong word. Maybe you don’t like something with his job performance but he seems like a hard guy to hate.

1. His age, makes it less likely he ever doesnt anything. It also makes it harder for him to relate to his guys.
2. His lack of post season success.
3. His offense sucks
4. His rotations make no sense.
5. He refuses to play freshman.
6. You say he seems like a good person, but rumors ive read here, TOS, and other places say hes a pain in the ass behind closed doors.

Sounds like made up BS to fit your narrative.

Try again scooter.

He refuses to play Freshman…
Chandler 31/40 minutes
Zeigler 27/40 minutes

Am I missing something on that point? And I’m not sure why people keep saying he “seems” like a good person. I’ve met Rick multiple times and talked to many that have played for him. Not a single person has had a bad word to say about Barnes. That’s a fabricated story line.

I don’t think it’s a given that he will still be here to make the hire. This fanbase has adopted the MO that a football coaching change mandates an AD change as well. Not saying Heupel is going to fail, and I like Heupel, but I’m not sure if he’s going to get the patience from the fanbase that the situation he inherited warrants if football can’t break past the 7-5 barrier in a couple of years, which I think could be tough. Barnes’s contract is fully guaranteed until 4-30-2024 so the haters will have to deal with the fact that he is unfireable for 3 more years.
Hate to break it to you but Heupel accomplished a lot more this season than Barnes has. Heupel took a very limited roster and finished 7-5 ( I’m not counting the bowl game since the referees decided they wanted us to lose). Barnes so far this season has taken a roster that has 3 5* players and we’re currently tied for 6th in the SEC and other than a few games have looked like crap

You met him in what capacity, sure he's going to be nice to fans at public events. Like I said though that's the rumor and word I've read about him, another on the list of things he was ousted at TX for.

Why are you believing the reports at TX? After every coach is fired there are stories about how they were secretly a jerk and horrible that are written to save face for the university that fired them. Source: every UT football firing within the past 25 years

Well Hippie I say “seems” because I don’t know Barnes personally so I can’t make any absolute statements about him. From what I see in the media and how his players appear to respond to him he “seems” like a good guy to me. I struggle to understand how anyone would “hate” him unless they had some personal negative interaction with him in the past. Maybe some folks misuse the word “hate” since it appears checkerboard doesn’t know Barnes personally yet claims to hate him?

In what capacity was he not a nice person? Being rushed for an autograph while he's out to eat with his grandchildren? You're going to use the situation when people found him to be nice, you damn sure need to provide the context where he wasn't.

I just asked what the situation was. To fans wasn't really the point I've heard about anyways. It's more to his higher ups and boosters. That he's just really difficult to deal with.

It usually turns out to be true as well.

Except for Pruitt. Everyone mentioned what kind of jerk he was and ethically challenged person when we hired him. The majority of our fanbase just drank the Kool Aid and buried their head in the sand.

You are one sorry piece of trash. It’s one thing to not like the guy but to make sh!t up about someone to fit your agenda shows more about what type of person YOU are. You’ve never met Barnes and you certainly have never heard one “big wig” booster or higher up tell you how difficult he is to deal with

5 & 6 are just BS…Zeigler and Chandler are both playing a bunch lmao. You should’ve just stopped at #4, would’ve been a more accurate and believable post instead of grasping at straws to try and add something.

Yet you don’t give Barnes that same luxury on the foul call against Purdue that kept us from going to the Elite 8, wonder why that is? Lol.

His support from assistant coaches in unquestioned, same for former players…he coaches players hard and I’m sure there’s been some softer players who have transferred and had their feelings hurt, that’s the case for every coach, but considering the donations and charity events he puts on, and the assistants that line up to coach for him whenever there’s an opening, I don’t think there’s much legitimacy to that.

And let’s not forget that Barnes has committed 1 NCAA violation while at Tennessee, and that was because he paid an assistant out of his own pocket because the AD m wouldn’t approve a raise that Barnes felt he deserved.

Sure wouldn’t seem to be the case at Tennessee considering the higher ups and boosters are the folks who ran to Fulmer to make sure that Barnes didn’t leave for UCLA.
