Riots in England. Are we next?

I don't know about riots, but if people can't afford to feed their families, you can bet the crime rate will explode.

Are the British unable to feed their families? Is that why they're rioting?

it would be interesting to if people tried riot here in the south. I would say it would be met with much legal resistance from gun owners.

Why isn't there ever some badass dude that comes in camera view and kicks everybody's ass, Bruce Lee style. That would be a good thread. Video of punks getting their asses handed to them by a peacemaking badass.

I imagine it would be different almost anywhere in the US. There's an article string on Instapundit that details what appear to be pretty significant shortcomings on the law enforcement side, including discouraging people from helping their neighbors. With the difficulty that the London police are having containing the mob, new meaning is given to the phrase "when seconds count, the police are only minutes away."

No. I was just speculating on what could possibly cause unrest in the US. I think you're reading too much into the comment.

Speaking of the riots in England... there is a movement of people taking photos of the faces of looters and posting them on Twitter so that they'll get caught.

Good. From what I have read, it started out as a legit protest and the rioters now are a bunch of thugs that want free shiz and took advantage of the incident. Looting seems to be the main goal now.

well if they can't feed themselves, then they might not be too fat to riot.

An interesting observation from that blog.

"Since no police force has the numbers to be everywhere at once, it maintains order through the force of its name, the power of the uniform. This was once known as ‘prestige’; today it is better known as ‘legitimacy’. Although as insubstantial as air it is as vital as oxygen. Without it things become very dificult. Once the authorities begin lose their prestige they must rely ever more heavily on force, of which there is never, ever enough.

In one sense legitimacy is the fiction on which society is based. It is to government what confidence is to a bank."

I read that the protest started following a shoot out between the police and a black teenager(?) following which the teenager died and an officer was wounded. Is there a subplot that I missed (like the racial tension that built up before the Rodney King riots)?

Right. But, from what I have seen, the 'protests' have evolved into people looting stores. That has nothing to do with legit protests over what could possibly be police brutality.

It's no longer a protest, it's a full-blown riot.

The police shot an unarmed man (in a taxi cab) on Thursday (this is a special armed unit of Scotland Yard). After the police tried to put the kaibash on a peaceful demonstration the following night all hell has broken loose. Forensic evidence now shows, the victim did not fire a gun. In addition, there was a bullet found in one officer's radio - of course made much ado in the bourgeois media. Forensics now know it was ammunition from the police force itself.

So, there is plenty of outrage and rightfully so.

The riots are now almost exclusively teenagers looting with impunity. It is disgraceful that 1. they have been so brainwashed by society into thinking a new G4 phone, priced out of their reach, is important, and 2. they have so little parental supervision, probably because mum and dad work shifts in many cases, 3. that they have so little respect for social, collective cohesion.

However, this does show a downside to walkable communities. No way could teenagers mount these kinds of riots from suburbia.

I've been waiting for someone to bring this topic up.

This isn't about rich/poor, it's about a failed muticultrural
diversity policy which allows a flood of immigrants who
have no intention of assimilating into their host country,
many are performing hijra for the purpose of jihad for
islam.

The number one name for a male child for several years
born in London isn't Tom, John or Richard, it is
muhammed.

Rioting has spread to West Midlands and Birmingham.

Forced to strip naked in the street: Shockingscenes as rioters steal clothes and riflethrough

The above thread is locked, I suspect because of the
possible racial overtones and then too the nudity displayed
in videos where people on the street are not only robbed
but humiliated as well when all their clothes are taken.

Blame it on the Jews, yeah, that's the ticket.
