Riots in England. Are we next?

O'Reilly made some unintentionally humorous comments concerning the riots tonight. Wondered if the violent riots would "bring up the gun ownership conversation" in Britain, and the policy of cops not carrying firearms.

I'm a gun owner and 2nd amendment fan, but suggesting that folks there will be wanting to increase the frequency of cops with guns on them after cops shot an unarmed man and sparked a riot is pretty dumb.

Of course they can.

Is there a legitimate reason for income disparity? Yes. Can that disparity come at the expense of Jane's health and wellbeing? No.

Again, the bourgeois stories about the "welfare moms" driving cadillacs are canards, myths, falsehoods, etc.

You speak of looking out your back door. Perhaps you should have the concrete wall removed. I teach in a middle school, and have for 31 years. In special education. You need to see the forms that we send out every year for free and reduced lunches. The amount of money a person can make is unreal. Myself (not counting my wife's income) with a masters degree, could have gotten free lunches for my two sons. Never did! You should go hang out at local grocery stores and watch the folks with food stamps get into their cars. I teach some of the poorest of the poor and to a kid they all either have a PS or Xbox. They bring gameboys to class, I won't let them play with them. You speak of getting in a real world, tear your wall down!

As it happened, I worked all through high school in an inner city grocery store during the time when bagboys still carried groceries to the car. I would estimate half of our payments were in food stamps / WIC / etc.

Never once did I put groceries in a cadillac. Not once. In fact, most were taking a long walk home with some heavy bags because it certainly wasn't a walkable community.

It was a long time ago. Things have actually become worse by every available metric we have.

Just did a quick ebay look - gameboys for a couple dollars. Some gone for $5. I'm not sure all your kids have internet. However, they probably do have the poor-man's equivalent - the local fence.

Love teachers though. Keep up the good work! I know Tennessee isn't good to their public teachers. Hang in there.

Now, if we could just channel droski's anti-consumerism tirades into real revolutionary zeal!

They don't drive much in the inner city in the first place do they? Lack of parking seems to be a problem there doesnt it? Not everyone on food stamps lives in the inner city, I would guess that more live outside the city than in one. You seem to be fixated on inner city problems and forget that the "poor" live outside it's doors!

Yes the vast majority of these poor kids do have Internet, funny how they had it before 3G, back when it was still dial up! Don't forget the cell phones, iPods, etc.... They have. Yes back yard trading does go on, but the parents get mad at them for trading what they bought them!

There's a lot of frustration in the world, today. And just seems like there isn't a lot to look forward to.

If you ask me, we need some sort of international grand gesture. Like maybe a manned flight to Mars. Something to get behind and be excited about.

You mean a distraction from the lack of leadership that is on display on both sides of the pond. Let's focus on getting people back to work, then we will work on getting people to Mars

Waiting for the jealous hood rats in London to blame all of this on the tea party.

Seems that 3 store owners have been killed guarding their property! A BBC interview with 2 female thugs, say the reason they're rioting store owners is because they're rich!

Sorry I can't link with my phone!

Bunch of freaking chavs that have nothing better to do. Nothing but thugs. Riots were initially started by fellow members of the gangs the dead guy belonged to.

I will always Big Pimp NASA, but what we really need is a social program to address the crisis of wealth redistribution (development, if you prefer) and to radically alter our lives to restore it to its proper place on this planet. The greatest challenge ever to humankind is happening right now, impoverishing every ecosystem on this planet, and making an alien world. And we are doing NOTHING.

These are the sources of the frustration. These are projects to get REALLY excited about.

yeah, because 50 years of the War on Poverty has had such amazing results in the US.

the riots in London have absolutely nothing to do with income inequality.
