Provided that nobody is in there purely spamming the board, or threatening to kill or maim someone, I actually don't want the board moderated.

I sure as hell wouldn't want the board moderated to remove "controversial" material, like someone coming in after the Purdue game and saying "I think forward progress actually was stopped and the officials made the right call."

What's spam? Does that include fans of other teams invading and talking trash?

Homophobia, bigotry, racism, prejudice, bias (even towards vocation and church affiliation) is everywhere here. As it is IRL. What somebody posts doesn't change who or what I am. It defines them. It doesn't define me. I've been called some really unpleasant things, IRL. What do I care? Perhaps my attitude would be different as a gay man seeing homophobia or as a black man seeing racism. If those exist on social media and I don't like them, I can limit my exposure to that content via my user control. In that way, this hullabaloo over Twitter is a nothing burger.

If by garbage you mean opinions that are stupid, poorly thought out, conspiratorial, or otherwise outside the bounds of "conventional" thought, then no.

Not a perfect analogy, but say you want to go to the football forum after a bad UT loss. Is it better to (1) have some moderation of what gets posted there? or (2) have the policy that anything goes, it's up to the user to mute all the posters who are trolling?

Which do you think makes for a more readable board?

1) Musk has not said he seeks an anything goes policy
2) Other than blocking some users I can't ignore posts as easily on this board since all posts are shown in chrono order. On Twitter I can more easily choose what gets shown to me.
3) Much of the Twitter garbage is in the replies which you don't have to look at all (must choose to go through the replies) whereas on this board all comments are presented

There is a degree of effort involved. I wouldn't go so far to label it a chore.

I guess what you're describing is what I have been forced to do my whole life so now I simply do it on auto pilot. As a person who has always been R-conservative-constitutional-libertarian-federalists) self filtering has been my whole life. Newspaper, radio, TV, music, movies, et all are directed mostly by those who have different agenda than mine. And, when it got to the point where the nuggests of interest didn't outweigh the dogma of disagreements, I walked away. I don't take the paper, don't watch news, don't use FB or Twitter, rarely watch broadcast TV, and go to the movies rarely. IMgur is on the cusp of deletion just because so much idiocy gets through the filters I've placed.
What I am saying is, welcome to the club everybody.

Post election we find out the presidents son left it at a repair shop and it is in fact hunters laptop and the information in it indicated that Hunter and Joe are on the take…again. Where does this fall on your continuum of lies considering it involves no less than the entire legacy media, several top security experts and the White House press Secretary? Keeping in mind the FBI has his laptop.

If you have to filter through 50 messages for Viagra and Nigerian scams to get to meaningful content, that's a problem. If you have to filter through 50 takes/opinions you don't agree with to find one you consider to be well-reasoned, welcome to life.

I "suffer" through the extreme ends of the spectrum in the PF for only two reasons. There are a group of posters who offer content that i find interesting. And for some inexplicable reason, I have a fondness for the lovable losers who frequent this forum.

It's not really well defined but for the most part very little gets removed. Low effort threads can get merged, blatant troll threads usually get removed and someone could just be given the night off to sober up. Slurs, insults, etc get removed immediately but that's about it
