RIP Twitter

I don't follow you fully, here. Are you saying the conservatives abandonment of principles influenced you to no longer identify as right-leaning? Or that abandonment influenced you to drop the right leaning principles associated with your libertarianism?

I grew up in a conservative household and stuck with it until about age 25 when I realized small government wasn't really on the agenda. I adopted some progressive attitudes and positions, realizing that they encouraged freedom and small government. But I was still a right-leaning libertarian for about a decade mostly because I sincerely thought conservatives did a better job of sticking to their principles and seemed to try for better outcomes, despite their massive flaws. The last 6 years completely changed all of that and I believe they're every bit as bad as the left.

I think a lot of people that supported Obama were left behind when the Democratic Party sprinted left. Obama was (or at least appeared to be) a moderate candidate that appealed to a lot of people.

And in retrospect, he wasn't really as crazy liberal as the current regime is. I think Obama honestly blew his wad on Obamacare and became a lame duck after the Dems got waxed in the midterms.

Obama's immigration policies would be considered right wing extremist today from his original speeches. The left don't realize how far they've shifted away from the middle.

In the American lense, maybe. Our left is barely right-leaning centrist when viewed in comparison to our peer countries. Bernie may be global center.

I've been enjoying Mastodon. Much easier to find communities that match your interests without having to weed through as much randomness.

Clearly I'm speaking through an American lense. I really don't care about what Europeans do politically. They aren't the leaders of the free world for a reason.

I think Obama will honestly be seen as kind of a "meh" President based on accomplishments. He really wasn't good, wasn't really horrible either when trying to deal with a opposing party legislature.

I think Clinton will go down as the last President that could wheel, deal and compromise effectively in the Oval Office. And I fear even he'd be too "right wing" for the current Democratic Party.

OK, I mean, we got the receipts here on VN. Conservatives all over this board were wanting to change section 230 and claimed Twitter as the town square.

I mean, cool that you think it's interesting that leftists turned their backs on something they believed for about 5 minutes, but my point is conservatives turned their backs on principles they professed to believe in as long as I've been around.
So the conservatives flipped and you think that rationalizes the lefts hissy fit?

At least you own your inconsistency

He’s most definitely too right wing. I’m a Clinton democrat and the modern democrats think I’m republican. That says it all.

What I don’t hear in any of this rambling is a core value you believe in regardless of party (or tribe). That’s the problem with most in their political position. Pick a tribe and let them tell you what you believe.
It’s a sad state really

Wow, so I switched tribes because of named values and you conclude my position is based on tribalism. I don't even know how to respond. Did you read it? Are you such a purveyor of misinformation that you can quote information and simultaneously, shamelessly flip its entire meaning?

Elon Musk Said to Plan Taking Twitter Public Again Later

Mr. Musk said he plans to stage an initial public offering of Twitter in as little as three years of buying it, according to people familiar with the matter. The deal is ex-pected to close later this year, subject to conditions including the approval of Twitter shareholders and regulators, the company has said.

Your opinion is based on tribalism because you change your opinion based on who your talking about.
Hell, you even identify yourself with tribe names and At which time you switch tribes.

I can't make sense of any of this, dude. Are you having a stroke? WTF are you talking about?

Are you walking back the ******** about me not basing it on core values? Because I explicitly named two core values that I was basing it all on in OP.

Not only will Obama be seen as as "meh" President, he'll be seen as a relatively inconsequential one as well. History will remember he was the first black President and that's about it. The signature piece of legislation he championed, ACA, was passed in a purely partisan fashion and had its major enforcement provision (the tax for not having insurance) repealed by the subsequent administration.

I’m still trying to figure out how you come to the conclusion that Dems were for small government in that time frame .
