Rivalry Renewed: #19 Miami vs Florida (3:30PM ET, ABC)

I’m not saying Billy should sign the paperwork, but he might want to start looking for a realtor. Samford, Mississippi State, and maybe UCF are the only games they should be favored in.

Florida’s longest win streak against us is 11 games. Take that out and the series is even. Our longest streak against Kentucky is 26. Take that out and we still lead the series by THIRTY GAMES. So no. We are not to them what Kentucky is to us. In case you weren’t aware, 2008-2020 was the worst period in the history of our football program. There is no “curse.” The vast majority of our losses to them the past 20 years, UF has simply had more talent and typically better coaching. Last year was an exception, but their homefield advantage is real and we were missing our second most important offensive player.

Any kind of “bad mojo” around the UF game only exists because of fans perpetuating this nonsense like you’re doing.
They are 25-8 against us since 1990, bud.

They’ve beaten us when we were a powerhouse, middling, and absolutely terrible. Peyton freaking Manning couldn’t even beat UF.

Unfortunately, they have our number. I would sure love nothing more than for Heupel to break us out of that, but so far he lost to their subpar 2023 squad and almost let them come back and beat us in Neyland in ‘22 (‘21 he had inferior talent, so I won’t count it).

On paper, we should demolish them, but I guarantee you it will be a slugfest. I’ll gladly eat crow if it’s a blowout.

It’ll be Lane Kiffin or Deion Sanders.

It will be Kiffin. Fla will not sit and watch Miami AND Tennessee pass them by like they (miami) did and The Vols will. Who would you hire? Ole Miss can't match Florida's $$$$. And Kiffin needs more exposure that Uf can give.

Totally agree…
I looked at final AP rankings as an indicator of team quality. Over the last 25 years, there have been only 4 times when we had the better team (i.e., finished the season ranked ahead of Florida) but lost to Florida:
- 2023: 17th ranked UT lost to Unranked UF...in Gainesville
- 2015: 22nd ranked UT lost to 25th ranked UF...in Gainesville
- 2007: 12th ranked UT lost to 13th ranked UF...in Gainesville
- 1999: 9th ranked UT lost to 12th ranked UF...in Gainesville
The Swamp is a tough place to play.

There were three times (2002, 2010, and 2014) when both teams were bad (finished unranked) and we lost in Knoxville. Maybe you can blame those on a curse (I would call ‘10 and’14 the Dooley-Butch curse).

Summary: Over the last 25 years we have generally had the worse team and have lost. When we have clearly had the better team we have won except for a very few games in Gainesville.

If people want to claim that we are always the better team but lose to UF because of some kind of voodoo, I guess that is fine. But I would rather approach each game with the current facts (who has the better team, who has the better coach, who has the homefield advantage) and then hope the breaks go our way.

If it’s even close, we certainly don’t need to be talking about playoffs. There are several teams on the schedule that will clean our plow if we can’t beat Florida. Oklahoma is going to be a dog fight.

Tenn hasn't had a QB the likes of Nico; athleticism and all. All due respect to PM. Vols win by 20. Gatas don't have a QB.

Disagree with this, UGA has had their share of slugfest games against bad teams, but have found a way to win and move on to the SEC championship/playoffs.

I agree with you about the past but this is a new year. Also they're not as early on the schedule as they used to be. Remember the last time we didn't have to play them in September. We beat one of their best teams in the Swamp.

I think the scheduling change is what we need to lift the curse.
