Riyahd Jones Knee

Anyone know exactly what's wrong with jones knee? Haven't seen it posted anywhere

Assistants can't comment on it. Butch isn't scheduled to address media until tomorrow. Unless something leaks, we might have to wait until then to find out

The bad news is good corners are hard to find. The good news is if you have the athletic ability its the easiest position on the defense to learn. They have like 20 WR's on the roster. If I wasn't running with the 3's or higher I'd be asking to move to DB. Football's way more fun when you can get on the field.

Word on Twitterverse is that Riyahd and Byron Moore collided on the long Neal touchdown run. Neither saw the other. I went back and watched the highlight video from the Saturday night practice. On the run you see two defensive players who would have to be DB's on the ground, but can't tell who they are. I think one of them is Byron Moore from backing the video up when they are in pursuit. You can see the top half of what looks like his 3 as he turns to run down field. At the end of the run, all you see is two orange jerseys on the ground. Neal even looks over to the right as it happens

TIFWIW. Just because its on the interwebs doesn't make it true

Also I noticed they ended the video with a pass breakup by Riyahd and then showed him celebrating afterwards. Maybe a bit of a tribute to him since they knew he was injured pretty bad.

difference is those teams have way more depth than we do so it doesnt hurt as bad. and we have been saying for five years we are rebuilding

Rebuilding is totally dependent on having a competent architect and contractor, neither of which we have had for the last 4 years. Now we do it seems. I may be disappointed in our win/loss record this year but I really feel that the effort will far outshine anything we have had of late and that will keep me smiling to some extent.

Terrible news, but hopefully a healthy pass rush will help out. Not to mention schemes (which I guess I just mentioned).

You may be dissatisfied with the rate of rebuilding but it did occur. DD simply could not coach on gameday... and he made one of the worst DC hires in the history of CFB.

The roster is nowhere near the absolute train wreck it was 3 years ago. UT is not in a rebuilding mode this year. Perhaps next year after all the Srs and a couple of Jrs move on... but right now this is a team with many talented upperclassmen and enough young talent for competent coaches to plug the holes.

UT has experience issues at WR and a depth problem at CB. MOST CFB teams right now have one position or another that is a concern because of either youth or depth. You probably wouldn't need both hands to count the number of teams that have solid, experienced talent 2-deep at every position.

Really hate to hear this, but glad to hear the frosh WR's are stepping up. It makes the move for VD easier. Hopefully, he can help out there.

GO VOLS!!!

Unfortunately they are all in the SEC and on our schedule:) Its kind of like when you have the No. 15 recruiting class in the country but No.8 class in the conference.

Guys... I can't find anything anywhere else, nor have I heard anything on any Sportstalk radio shows today about Jones. Are we sure there's something here???

You probably have two of them in the SEC: LSU and Bama. UF has places where they are absolutely stacked and a position or two where the drop off is pretty significant. UGA replaces a boatload of defensive starters so you would anticipate their back ups not getting as much time as normal to develop. No one else is any or much better off than UT. USCe has thin spots as do all the rest.

Mizzou who for some reason many on here want to give more love than they are due will start players that could not make the two deep for UT. They are multiple recruiting classes away from truly competing in the SEC... and have not yet started getting classes of that caliber. I don't have to feel guilty with these comments... I live in MO and have a son who goes there. I pull for them outside them playing UT... but the truth is that being mid-pack in the old Big 12 means you are probably 3rd tier in the SEC. In terms of talent, they are roughly where Vandy was before Franklin started recruiting a little better.

Still would like to get Bryon some reps at CB. He has some man-to-man coverage ability.

Yeah. Our best pass rusher is Vereen. Need to get him healthy quick...

So I read on ESPN that the Hoakies had a backup corner leave the team and (the actual guy I read about) a former starting corner to transfer. Not going to say that we can get him or that he would make an impact but could we go after him? And if we could, we would have a little more cushion if Jones doesn't make it back this season.

Hoagies*

The last thing we should do is rush Maggitt back in to the lineup. If his knee isn't ready, then so be it but coming back too soon could ruin a good player. The defense will be better than last year, not saying much I know, and the offense won't be quite as good. The big difference, I believe, will be the leadership will be better and the team will probably improve as the year goes by. We need better players and more depth to get back to where we want to be but the first step is getting the right leadership and I think we may finally have that in place.
