Rob Lewis expects Stokes and McRae to return...

Very possible.
If you read Quinn's latest, Martin has no idea what Stokes is going to do.
Says he may and may not go. won't know til the 28th, he says.

Also says transition will take care of itself.
How's that work if no one bows out? Last 2 don't get in?
Not sure it will take care of itself Cuonz.

I believe both statements about the same, very little. I think he has a very good idea of what stokes is gonna do, and I also believe he is fully aware of where the scholarships are gonna come from.

Chism was really 6'7 and not as strong in the post. He was a tweener without enough speed or ball handling for the NBA. I think he could have contributed to a team personally though.

I always thought he would be a good addition to a team. I think he almost made the Kings iirc

So Martin's dodgin or lyin?

He can't comment on who is leaving to open up scholarships. Until its official its a personal in house thing.
More NCAA rules to rattle the nerves?
Hope he's got a better handle on this than he did the tourney situation. Sorta blew that one.

It's called having some professionalism or just covering his ass. He isn't cutting Yemi loose if stokes decides to leave. No way he would say yemi's scholarship isn't being renewed right now.

This is a ridiculous statement. He is going to know before they announce- like when he took Moore last year before Washpun had officially said he was leaving.

It's pretty clear to me that yemi isn't going to be renewed as long as stokes comes back and CM can't say that since yemi is a big need if stokes leaves.

It's for this reason those that think this is an ok sign as long as its a replacement for yemi have no real basis for that thought. This sign was the best available option our staff had regardless of who the replacement is for. This is their best option and that is the problem IMO.

Most of the VN posters are trying to make the recruitment of Ndiaye a "cause and effect" relationship, i.e., he was recruited to fill a particular void (real or potential). Don't think that's it at all; look at the timeline.

Both Quinn and the kid's JUCO coach say Martin started getting in on Ndiaye about 6 to 8 weeks ago. Did UT have a BIG problem at that point? Potentially, but nothing real. To CCM's credit, he may have made a preemptive move as an insurance policy against Maymon's effective return. Or against Stokes' possible departure as he kept racking up double-doubles. Or against Yemi's possible growing displeasure riding the bench. IT DOESN'T MATTER; he saw a growing potential problem and took action. Won't argue the merit; he got a BIG body.

From Quinn's article below, Martin's comments certainly imply he takes Ndiaye over Yemi, and Ndiaye was added "to address potential frontcourt depth issues". Something's up; stay tuned.

I guess...I don't think it'd be appropriate for him to come out and say, well yemis probably gone, and Landry we will probably ask to the prep route...at this point, especially if Landry and his dad say nothing has changed in the last couple weeks with travons scholarship.

If what I have heard is true, and not saying it is, there is definitely something up. From what I've heard Yemi is gone, he may be working out but he's gone. I've heard everything from grade issues, to unhappy about PT, to legal problems...idk if any of those are true, but everything I keep hearing says he is gone. That would further explain why Martin rushed out and got Ndiaye, knowing Yemi was gone and facing the possibility of losing Stokes he HAD to add someone. My guess is that Yemi and someone else (Landry, Reese or Edwards) are gone...and that if Stokes were to declare we would look to add another big...someone with experience who could play immediately. A Tarik Black, Josh Smith kind of guy...maybe Rutgers transfer if they get a waiver.

I just can't buy the angle that we have another better option lined up if stokes leaves. In order to believe that one has to believe the staff didn't go after the best player on their board for their first opening. Not possible IMO.

I'll use josh davis as an example, this is a guy with one year left. You think he'd even consider going to a school that has 2 all-sec forwards on their roster? He's gonna go somewhere he is pretty much promised a starting spot and 30 minutes a game. If we inquired about him and he responded, well what about maymon and stokes, and our response was yea they're here, but yemis gone, I can't imagine that was too enticing. However, you call and say, we've got a big hole just left when our all-sec forward decided to go pro...come here and you'll start from day 1 on a preseason top 25 team with high hopes for this season...he may actually listen to that call.

We should.have recruited an extra big in the early.signing period instead of waiting till the last second.....we were already low on depth at the post positions.

And back to the Austin Nichols discussion...hopefully CCM learned a valuable lesson. I started a thread last year, don't know if you remember it, about him putting all his eggs in one basket.

If those calls were made and we were turned down then yes I buy this. But I have read nothing about our interest in anybody else. The reasons given are legitimate reasons we would get turned down but not reasons not to try. Maybe we were turned down

Obviously water under the bridge now, but what's the perception around the program if he had landed Nichols? 2 top 25 players, likeky wouldn't have added Ndiaye, and a frontcourt of Maymon, Stokes (?) and Nichols next year?

Definitely water under the bridge. Looking back now, Martin signs JW3 when he was a good possibility, then we don't see such a decline in CCM popularity. I would feel much better about the direction of the program.

Saying that "our work is done and that we are an NCAA tourney team" before the SEC tourney starts.

Laying an egg in both SEC tourneys.

Not showing up in the NIT the last 2 years.

Having to go out at the last minute to get a JV guy like we just got because of the missed opportunities in the fall.....

Following the most popular coach ever at UT.

CCM needs has to have a HUGE year to change the perception of the program.

All three would not have started because none of them can guard a 3 but the 3 man rotation for the 4 and 5 spots would have been tough. Talk about opening it up for the wing shooters.
