Robert Gillespie hired as new RB Coach

Great Hire! Who can argue with Rivals Recruiter of the Year? And VFL should not apply to coaches...the idea of that is just silly. All I care is that coaches are VFN. (Vol For Now)

Additionally, perhaps it is good to get away from folks that have direct ties to the Vols for a while, especially considering the past few years. The way things have been going, a complete change of staff may be just what the doctor ordered.

he should be OK. Fulmer whooped his ass 2x. Land a big time back and it's not all that hard to coach up a top notch RB that can come in and start over Lane next year

Care to clarify what you mean by calling coach Butch Jones a nag? Is nag a term used to describe someone who is in your face, demanding, and a stickler for details?

I think nag as in, "a broken down old horse that isn't good for much except feeding."

I'm not going to lie, I'm happy a coach from the only other team I pull for got hired, but has anybody looked into what he accomplished at WVU??? The past two years have been miserable in Morgantown with the running game....I'm not sure if that's in part to the Geno Smith and Bailey/Austin combo out there blazing the air raid offense ...but just just two years ago was Noel Devine's senior year and he fell flat that year .....like I said...I'm not gonna put the guy down until he's had his chance on the field, but I sure do hope that the numbers are better here than they were at WVU....especially considering WVU has a huge history of running the ball well....any info on what he's done elsewhere???

Why are you always digging for negative when you like the positive. If you would quit being so anal you would be a pretty good poster.

I just think post after post saying CRG was Rivals recruiter of the year makes us look foolish and misinformed. I wasn't looking for anything negative in fact the opposite. I was excited about CRG being "recruiter of the year" until I looked it up to see it wasn't true. I still think the guy is solid but to be Rivals "recruiter of the year" you have to be a truly special recruiter and somewhere other then WVU.

Posting isn't a popularity contest so I will continue to bring real facts to the board even if it means not being a good poster in your eye's.

He didn't coach Noel Devine. Dana Holgorson never had Noel Devine.

WVU has been a passing spread with Geno Smith, kinda like Clemson. Their two main runningbacks this year had a 4.8 and 5.1 ypc. His first year at WVU it was 5.5 and 4.3. Okie State was also number 1 in rushing in the Big 12 his first year at Okie State and coached NFL back Kendall Hunter. His last year at Okie State, Joseph Randle had 5.2 ypc with 14 touchdowns.

Get over the loss of Jay Graham. Great Player, Solid position coach but went about 0 -37 in trying to get a decent running back to Knoxville!

I am not saying Gillespie turns everything around but he has had success is several spots. Lets get Jalen Hurd!!!

He had a spectacular rushing attack at Oklahoma State (over 2,200 yards and 20+ touchdowns both seasons), and he helped to revive South Carolina's running game prior to Graham's arrival. As for West Virginia, part of it is attributable to Holgerson's system, but West Virginia had over 2,200 yards rushing last season and 21 touchdowns last season and over 1,500 yards and 25 touchdowns in 2011. Considering either would be an upgrade on touchdowns for this team and on par for rushing yardage, I think we'll be just fine.

Hey maybe we could sign a kid away from East Carolina with this guy, right? Cause that was the level Jay Graham brought us up to.

I've always liked and followed WVU football as well. My opinion on your post...well I'm not sure the Holgerson "air raid" is the best offense for WVU RBs to shine in. Although young, I'm not sure Buie is quite the talent most (including me) thought he would be at the major D-1 level. He just doesn't seem to have that burst when he sees the hole, and he in fact doesn't seem to ...see the hole as he should. Seemed to me like when WVU went with that big 230 RB this season, they looked to be very dangerous, and moved the ball better. But even then, rarely would they fully commit to the run. If you want my opinion....I think Dana Holgerson is VASTLY OVER RATED, and WVU has some dark days ahead. Yes he had the big orange bowl win. But remember, Bill Stewart's (RIP BILL) 1st game was the BCS bowl where he effing WAXED Oklahoma. Yet Stewart was fired in 3 years.

As for Devine...he had turf toe his senior season. Turf toe and RBs don't mix.

Dooley beat them because he had better players. Talent takes over. MTSU could have the best coach in the nation but would never beat Bama with a bad coach.

The reason why CBJ hasnt won an SEC title is because he hasnt had a chance too. A good coach is a good coach.

Not true. Bad teams beat good teams. Look at Saban losing to UAB while at LSU and LA Monroe or Lafayette at Ala. Or Fulmer losing to Memphis, Wyoming.

Ainge is full of sh-t. And no he's not more credible than Hubbs, I don't care if he is an ex-Vol. You're full of sh-t too. You cry like a lil school girl every time someone disagrees with you.

The pot is calling the kettle black here. I'm glad we have both Ainge, and Hubbs. I like them both, but Ainge is a little bit more inside than Hubbs is. Being a former player could get a lot more information from his buddies still there.

There's not much any defense can do against Da'Rick and Hunter when they are both hot. Wilcox was a very good defensive coordinator also. When you played Fooley's teams later in the year, they are worse than they were in week one. Butch had to roll his previously 4-8 team into Neyland during week 2. After that, Butch won a championship, and Dooley went 5-7. Your football ignorance is scary.

P E R F E C T ! ! ! The experience to be a great Running coach and replaces the void left recruiting the Carolinas. Also, SEC experience, new ideas, and this guy stayed with his head coach an average of 4 years each. Pretty good response by OUR HEAD COACH JONES. He keeps making the right moves.

Assistants move around and I remember when Pat Dye graduated at Georgia and coached at Auburn at the same time when Vince Dooley (Auburn grad) was coaching at Georgia. Coach Neyland did not play at Tennessee and neither did Pat Summit, but both were GREAT COACHES HERE.... Good luck to JAY, and welcome to our new coach, who looks more than qualified to do this job - I'M EXCITED... GBO!!!

Why are your feelings hurt and what have I cried about? Your the one crying like you just gave it up to another guy then kicked you out of his house when he was done using and abusing you. I like Hubbs and Ainge both and they both are very solid when it comes to info. But former players are part of the clique and are privileged to a little more true inside info. You will be ok though you will find that guy who lets you stay over. GL sweetheart!

I'm not a big fan of Ainge going off on Graham on the radio. But that's just my opinion. Especially when his theory wasn't very solid to say the least. He's also been over emotional/over dramatized situations several times...I would think to up his ratings. Him claiming Graham "quit" because he was "scared" of hard work is laughable IMO. Graham worked as hard if not harder than anyone on this staff this year in recruiting. D-1 coaching and recruiting is just that...hard work.

Do you really think other former players called Ainge up and said Graham is scared, which is what Ainge kept screaming on the radio? Do you think Hubbs DOESN'T know ex-players? Again, JMO...but Hubbs story of him not being comfortable being the lone leftover makes a lot of sense to me. Especially being that Graham has experienced this scenario before. Ainge on the other hand, sounded butthurt and out for blood like many on this site. I mean step back and think about it...scared of hard work, LOL. An ex D-1 and NFL football player with several years of D-1 coaching scared of hard work. Come on man...you're smarter than that, I've read your posts.

Ainge took the theory that fit his butthurt agenda and ran with it.
