Robert Gillespie hired as new RB Coach

Care to clarify what you mean by calling coach Butch Jones a nag? Is nag a term used to describe someone who is in your face, demanding, and a stickler for details?

I am saying the bet was placed when he was first hired on. That should clarify.

Dooley beat them because he had better players. Talent takes over. MTSU could have the best coach in the nation but would never beat Bama with a bad coach.

The reason why CBJ hasnt won an SEC title is because he hasnt had a chance too. A good coach is a good coach.

Dooley also lost to teams with less talent. Just sayin'.

As I've said before, VFL is complete bs. What did CJG accomplish here? He had a good line and took over where Dools had neglected. Who has CJG recruited? I for am more excited about this hire than keeping CJG. Gillespie is familiar with the spread and has ties to many key states.

Not in the SEC. BTW, I seem to recall Dooley beating them. That says a lot.

Not trying to engage in a pissing contest, but Jay Graham has done more to earn our respect than Butch Jones. Do I hope Butch succeeds? Hell yes I do, but I'm not going to blindly follow another coach just because he's UT's coach. Let's wait for him to prove something. And by prove something, I mean in the SEC on a week in, week out basis. Until that happens, I'm not going to join in on the stroke CBJ's ego game everyone seems to want and play. When he does something good, I have no problem saying "good job!". When he does something bad, I have no problem saying he screwed up. I deal in reality, not wishful thinking.

This isn't a Graham versus Jones contest. I like both and I was disappointed to see Graham leave but that's the nature of the beast. It's coaching. Graham is gone, Jones is our coach and Gillespie looks like a old hire to me.
Time to quit bashing Graham and look ahead.

"A quick glance at his recruiting profile turns up these tidbits on Gillespie:

He pulled Isaac McDonald this year from Hialeah this past year. This is a LB who had solid offers from Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Nebraska, North Carolina, South Carolina, Stanford, etc. He also signed Dreamius Smith, a big JUCO back who chose West Virginia over Oklahoma State. Jeremy Tyler is a three-star DB with solid offers that he pulled from Atlanta as well.
He was West Virginia's primary recruiter in 2012, pulling 10 three-stars -- all 10 from South Florida, Miami area. Travares Copeland and especially DE Eric Kinsey and Devonte Mathis -- who had solid offers from Ohio State, UCLA and Ole Miss, among others -- were the jewels of that class.
The big get for him in 2011 was four-star RB Andrew Buie who led the Mountaineers in rushing this year. He's from Jacksonville.
Going back even farther, he signed two four-star athletes for Oklahoma State in 2010, including elite runner Joseph Randle, who'll be one of the top four or five running backs taken in this year's draft. Justin Gilbert was expected to be a top few rounds cornerback, but he elected to stay for his senior season in Stillwater next year.
At South Carolina, he was the lead recruiter for Akeem Auguste and Kenny Miles. His resume is dotted with signing players a lot of great teams wanted."

Improved RBs, top recruiter on the staff this past season, yeah, I'm saying he did his job pretty damn well, and he was doing it at an SEC school, not at a school in a second rate conference. He did it well enough for FSU to offer him a better contract.

They also hired Sunseri.

Nuff said.

CJG wanted Head Recruiter status which he did not get. FSU just had a mass exodus of coaches following Stoops and CJF needed to replace several holes immediately. CJG went fishing and was able to secure a job and possibly the recruiter status he wants because its a resume builder. Sounds like normal business dealings to me. I doubt CBJ could have done anything short of giving the HR position to CJG to retain him no matter the money involved. But this is mostly supposition and not readily proveable but a likely scenario.

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but Gillespie was a freshman at UF in '98 and a senior in '01.

He was on the field for two of the biggest wins in UT football history.

I am like a lot of VOL fans, I was upset when Graham left too, but he is gone and TN must move on. I am excited about Gillespie being here at TN and hope he is extremely successful. Loyalty is not what it used to be, and coaches today are concerned about moving up the ladder the best way they believe is possible. I want coaches that are going to get us back to winning, and it does not matter where they played. WIN and nobody will be talking about where a coach is from or played. GO BIG ORANGE!
