I don't know much about Gillespie as a coach but I hope he is as good as everyone seems to think he will be. What I do find funny is now that Graham is gone everyone seems to think Jay wasn't all that good to begin with. Jay may not have been the best coach ever, but its hard to deny the fact our running back were better last year that the pervious year. Yes I understand that some of that is due to Coach Pittman, but I think the running backs ran better too.
Actually, the UF fans probably recognize that they got a double whammy out of hiring CJG by getting a good coach and depriving UTK of its top recruiter all in one swoop. UF has 4-5 guys who can recruit at CJG's level or better so they don't really have anything to fear.
Agree about his telling Muschamp to screw himself. But I think the best thing are his ties to Ms, Fla and Carolinas. Like this hire a lot!
Obviously, hiring a so called VFL (Jay Graham) worked.
When did he do that? And I'd turn down Muskrat too if I had other options. The man is just too high strung and prone to go way over the top. I wouldn't wanna be his underling if there was another offer on the table.
It was in an article on twitter I think from either Callahan or Woodberry. When he followed Dana Holvorson from Ok State to WVU Florida tried to hire him right when he got there. He turned Muskrat down saying he was a man of his word and that he promised Holvorson he would come and try to help him rebuild the WVU program.
Jay Graham is about as VFL as Tee Martin is. Jay Graham did not want to be at Tennessee. His decision to jump ship to FSU after one year clearly reflects that.
Confirmed on Butch Jones twitter, will update as more info comes out

What would have worked was paying him what he deserved when the new salaries were decided. Only one coach on staff was getting paid less. Hart and Jones basically smacked him in the face. I don't blame Jay for leaving.
But what's done is done. Hopefully Gillespie can do a good job, but I'd prefer Jay was still here. Now we have no former Vols on the immediate coaching staff.
People need to stop blaming Jay and just admit Jones screwed up on this one. He took care of his guys and left JG out in the cold. It's not unforgivable. We can get past it. But Jones screwed up.
