Robert Gillespie hired as new RB Coach

I think this was a great hire. CRG efforts in Fl recruiting speaks for itself. I think he can turn those 3 stars to WV to 4 Stars to Tennessee. I'm just ready to get the spring season started. Does anyone have any idea if Butch will do daily pressers, his coaches and players?

That looks like a damn good hire to me. Only question is.... It's been a couple hours. Has he called Jalen Hurd yet?

I don't know much about Gillespie as a coach but I hope he is as good as everyone seems to think he will be. What I do find funny is now that Graham is gone everyone seems to think Jay wasn't all that good to begin with. Jay may not have been the best coach ever, but its hard to deny the fact our running back were better last year that the pervious year. Yes I understand that some of that is due to Coach Pittman, but I think the running backs ran better too.

I'm sorry.... Jay who?

The best part about this hire is that he turned down an offer from Muschamp to coach at Florida...BOOM!

Agree about his telling Muschamp to screw himself. But I think the best thing are his ties to Ms, Fla and Carolinas. Like this hire a lot!

Actually, the UF fans probably recognize that they got a double whammy out of hiring CJG by getting a good coach and depriving UTK of its top recruiter all in one swoop. UF has 4-5 guys who can recruit at CJG's level or better so they don't really have anything to fear.

Hate to be a jerk, bc I agree with your point, probably should cause every so called "guru" to be reevaluated...I mean how do you mess the schools up that bad

When did he do that? And I'd turn down Muskrat too if I had other options. The man is just too high strung and prone to go way over the top. I wouldn't wanna be his underling if there was another offer on the table.

What a dumb statement. We didn't trade anyone. Jay quit and Butch hired another RB coach. Get your head out of your ass. :loco::loco::loco:

Nice response to that negative arse. I was waiting to see if someone would blast this dumbass before responding myself. Well said my friend.

Obviously, hiring a so called VFL (Jay Graham) worked.

What would have worked was paying him what he deserved when the new salaries were decided. Only one coach on staff was getting paid less. Hart and Jones basically smacked him in the face. I don't blame Jay for leaving.

But what's done is done. Hopefully Gillespie can do a good job, but I'd prefer Jay was still here. Now we have no former Vols on the immediate coaching staff.

People need to stop blaming Jay and just admit Jones screwed up on this one. He took care of his guys and left JG out in the cold. It's not unforgivable. We can get past it. But Jones screwed up.

It was in an article on twitter I think from either Callahan or Woodberry. When he followed Dana Holvorson from Ok State to WVU Florida tried to hire him right when he got there. He turned Muskrat down saying he was a man of his word and that he promised Holvorson he would come and try to help him rebuild the WVU program.

I could really give a crap less where the coaching staff went to school or played ball. All I want is wins. All of this VFL bulls*** is just blowing rainbows up people's butts.

Thanks for the info. :hi:

Jay Graham is about as VFL as Tee Martin is. Jay Graham did not want to be at Tennessee. His decision to jump ship to FSU after one year clearly reflects that.

From my understanding, Jay Graham wanted the title of "Recruiting Co ordinator" also. This would boost his resume.

CBJ gave that title to the coach who was recently coaching at Wisconsin and left to come to U.T. So, Graham did not get that additional duty or title, so he left.

Recruiting Co ordinator looks better on a resume than just running backs coach....

Wish Jay well. Agree that he's gone now and we move on. But regarding his salary, he was just about to get a $35k raise before all this happened and it was reported that CBJ was countering with another 40k to keep him. I can understand JGs hurt feelings but I also don't think CBJ really dropped the ball- it's only been 3 months since CBJ got there, not 3 years. Anywho, just my opinion, ready and very willing to move on to Gillispie.

Did Jay Graham have an agent? Did Jay Graham sign the contract? Why blame Jones? He made an offer and it was agreed to. He gave him a raise too! Then he offered him $40,000 More to stay. Wish I could get a raise like that. Jones did not screw up - you did for posting such stupidity.

It's a good hire, Spencer was the better. RG is established in FL, it's those connections that sealed this. Looking forward to seeing the results. Good luck, RG!
