No more high school teams.

What the Memphis vibe after the early exit once again?

3 years in a row pastner has greatly under achieved by most peoples account...

I am actually in West Palm Beach right now so all I really have to go on is what I've seen on the web. I would liken the vibe so far as very similar to the reaction of UT people after this past years football season. In all honesty it does have alot of paralells when you think about it. Pastner and Dooley, both unproven coaches that may/are going through a few growing pains in a high profile coaching job. Both are once proud programs, that are trying to find their way after a coaching change. The big difference is that UofM is LOADED with athletes and high profile recruits. Dooley didn't have that luxury. With that being said, I think that Pastner better win and win big next year or the wolves will be out in force. They will have a new AD that I am sure will be ready to make a big splash and, what better way to do that than "out with the old, in with the new"? Which is the best case scenario for us with the 2013 class. Maybe this loss causes a wait and see approach for an athlete like Nick King? I don't know. However, It will be interesting to watch. Just my thoughts.

That's pretty much how I feel, I'd think Memphis area is a bit unsettled right now on Pastner.

Hopefully a bad season next year, pastner gets canned, no 13' class big time Memphis guys go to Memphis, and we wave goodbye as they head to the big east.

Quite sad how the hopes and dreams of some UT fans around here are pinned on Memphis crumbling into the seas, so to speak.

Pastner is still recruiting lights out and he had a good year this season. He'll sign Nick King and probably Juwan Johnson from Memphis in 2013, and look to TX, GA or the Northeast for other pieces. 2013 will be a great class for Pastner and for a coach that's "underachieving", some of you guys are awful worried about him.

All I've heard on Hubbs is that there is no longer mutual interest. The kids sounds intent on staying close to home and going to Vandy (from an educational standpoint, a great decision; not so much from a basketball standpoint). Memphis is focusing on Johnson and Keith Frazier for our 2 guards in 2013. It's been posited that, after the trouble with joe jackson, the Memphis staff is going to be more selective with Memphis area players.

Yet you come on here and try to claim UT has no chance with any of these players, so it makes me think all you want to do is tear us down and makes us think we are crumbling into seas. Quite sad indeed.

Bold 1) You're the one on a UT board worried about us

Bold 2) Typical crap, he doesnt want to go to Memphis, just like Stokes, especially with Pastner there

Bold 3) Vandy has been better than Memphis in basketball for years now

Memphis has been the big fish in a liitle pond for some time now. It will be interesting to see if Pastner can step up his coaching for Big East play. I'm thinking Memphis fans are in for a huge eye opener over the next couple seasons.

1. I'm just trying to give you guys some info on one of your recruits.

2. He may not want to go to Memphis. Stokes is a different story though, and completely beside the point.

3. Meh, not really. Vandy is garbage. They lost to you guys this year, while Pastner was 2-0. Stallings is what, 1-4 in the NCAA tournament, and has lost to 3 double-digit seeds? Pastner is unproven in the NCAA for the most part, but Stallings is just plain bad.

There will be more in conference losses for sure, but recruiting will only get better, as will the basketball revenue.

Teams like USF, Cincy, Louisville, Marquette, etc. show that you don't have to win the conference to have post-season success. That will be a refreshing change of pace.

Fair point, but people like to harp on all the talent that Pastner had, Stallings had more, plus that talent was all experienced. I don't see what Stallings has done in the last few years that is worth celebrating.

Memphis sits right on top of one of the 2 or 3 biggest hotbeds for basketball talent in America. How does joining the Big East help recruiting?

How will being in a power conference, more recruiting money and more tv exposure help recruiting?

The biggest knock on Memphis in recruiting right now is that we play in the terrible C-USA. Now, that is moot, plus we get to go to Cincy, Louisville, Tampa, Milwaukee, New York, Jersey to showcase instead of Hattiesburg, Greensboro, El Paso, etc.

Stallings is successful with admissions and academic standards that most coaches don't have to worry about. And he is successful in the tougher side of the SEC. I think Stallings is a D-bag and I actually like Pastner but if I had to say which was the better coach, it's Stallings. Pastner inherited a gold mine and has produced nothing. Stallings works handcuffed and still manages to put a competitive product on the floor.

yeah imagine what a team like Duke would become under the same standards as Vandy

MC,

Didn't you all but guarantee that Memphis would sign atleast 2 of the big 4 from Memphis. And also went on to say Memphis would land more out of those 4 than Tennessee?

Pastner has only been a coach for 3 years. The guy is 34 years old and is a work in progress. Stallings has been coaching for 20 or so.

He'll most likely never have a trio as good as taylor, Jenkins and Ezeli again, and he could only muster the round of 32. A "good" year, by all objectivity, but not much more.

Pastner has proven he can't make it out of the first round in his only two tries. Pastner has every advantage a coach could want and he has jack squat to show for it. Like Zan said, Memphis had the advantage of playing UT away from Thompson-Boling, and at a time when the team was still carving out an identity. Vandy lost on the road, on senior day, with a lot on the line for UT (2nd place in the East).

No, I just disagreed with you when you claimed Tennessee would sign more than Memphis. I stand by that.

Could have sworn you said Memphis will land 2 of the 4 atleast.

On a side note you guys will most likely get Johnson IMO and you are in good standing with Wilson who is making a decision tomorrow iirc

If Pastner is already signing All Americans, winning his conference and going to the tournament in his third year coaching, imagine what he'll be doing when he actually gets some experience.

Duane Wilson? That guy's going to Marquette.

I honestly would've liked to get Hubbs, but if we're in good with Frazier from Texas, I think it'll be a wash.

I honestly hope you guys can pull Hubbs from Vandy, for some reason, I just don't care for that program.

Did he end up announcing. Interview with him I read last night he was undecided and between 3 schools, Memphis being one of them.
