Robert Marve

a high caliber QB recruit shouldnt be afraid of a walk on QB. in my opinion anyway.
Marve is not your typical walkon...he very likely has a scholarship offer, that goes into effect once the NCAA's 1yr rule is satisfied (ends in Dec 09). There's no way he would turn down scholarship offers from Purdue, Arizona State, etc. only to "hope" he can win a scholly.
He's walking on only due to restrictions that UM put on him

To make a decision next week. I think this is a free article. Someone tell me if it's not and I'll summarize.

Ex-Miami QB Marve nears decision - College Football - Rivals.com

From the article Sab posted:

He called off visits to Texas Tech and UCLA because those schools liked their quarterback situations coming out of the spring.

We should be a easy choice if satisfaction with our QB situation is a primary concern.

Weiner said as many as 30 schools were interested in Marve after he announced he was leaving Miami.

A lot of coaches recognize that Marve has a lot of upside potential.

On Tripper's comment, I'm not sure how much Marve had to do with our not signing a 2009 QB, but it could have been a factor. I thought it was that they saw potential in Crompton, Stephens, or BJ. We can rule out BJ now, of course, and with all this talk about Newton and Marve, those are not strong signals of confidence is Stephens beyond 2009. But NS does have 2009 to make his case.

My hope is that we get one year of JC playing at his recruited potential. And, as far as his intelligence is concerned, this is his third playbook, so maybe this one will fit better. If it does, we could break .500 this year.

His father's relationship with Monte would instill trust beyond the norm in this situation. That trust is well-earned.

Why don't you want Marve matt?

The main reason is that he got suspended 2 times last season. That is hard to do lol. He also got beat out by Jacory Harris. Harris is 6'4'' 170 btw. Harris will be a good player, but he should have redshirted. note: Marve is 6'1''.

Newton is a big 6'5'' 240 4.5 guy who has a cannon. He had that one run in with the law, but has otherwise been a good student. Newton has all the potential in the world too. His knock is that he is made for a spread O.

Marve had to mess up twice to get suspended twice (duh). Newton has messed up once and nothing has come out of it. Newton obviously has more talent, and with a lil coaching I think he could be a difference maker for us.

Marve will have an extra year to learn the system while Newton will not. Marve got supended for missing 4 classes and breaking a mirror off a car (accidently I think), but then he ran from the cops. Newton was kicked off of his team for stealing a laptop, spray painting his name on it, and then throwing it out of the window when the cops came to question him about it. Marve did start 11 games last year as a freshmen while Newton has not really seen any college playing time. And it is still not clear if Newton is a pro-style QB or not. Marve is...

I personally would prefer Newton. But Marve will be a heck of a QB here. They will both make us better as soon as they step on campus.

Marve is clearly the better option for UT. People who want Newton more are just infatuated with 6'6/4.5 forty.

I also looked at Newton's ability to get away from pressure behind a patchwork line. Because that's the type of line we may have. It'll be very inexperienced. So we need a mobile guy back there. But Marve is mobile too. So both would be great here. Even though Marve probably is a better fit.

Just take both. See which one is the better competitor. If the can't hack it then adiós.

Rumor-Robert Marve commits to Vols
Sources have informed me that Robert Marve has informed coaches last night he will play for the Vols.

Marve was in Knoxville this past week touring campus. He was unable to visit with coaches, but was looking at what Knoxville had to offer. It appears, a lot.

Marve would potentially join the Vols in June, and would be eligible to play in 2010. He would then have at least 2 years of eligibility left.
