Robert Marve

As for Purdue, they have a long history with Marve and the offense he’s looking for.

“I like being in a spread offense, similar to what I ran in high school,” Marve said. “I’ve known those coaches for awhile now. Even a couple of them were there when I was getting recruited out of high school. It’s just kind of a relationship that’s been building.”

This scares me about Marve...that he won't fit the system.

I believe you are overthinking this. Think of it like this. From the day you leave the Miami campus, you have have one scholarship year left. It doesn't matter if it's in the middle of the school year. He left at Christmas 08, so he will be on a Miami scholarship until Christmas 09. If it was the way you are thinking, he would have to wait a year and a half. At least that's the way it's been explained to me...

You mean like a UT grad that used to live in Miami and knows the Marves telling them what they need to see in Knoxville?

Or like being the former teammate of Arthur Brown who just happens to be the brother of incoming freshmen Vol Bryce Brown...

I think you are right. At least that makes sense to me. He is responsible for Spring 09 and Fall 09. He took care of Spring 09 by sitting out. Fall 09 he will pay for at UT. Then Spring 10 he is on scholarship.

Scholarships are renewed every fall, I believe, and run through the Spring because Summer is optional for most of the players depending on what they need to get done. So, that's why I believe it won't be until Summer 2010 that he would be eligible to be put on scholarship the way I understand it. We will have clarification one way or another though. :)

But he's wasn't enrolled at UT and couldn't be until the summer because he was on scholarship until the Summer. If that was the case, he would have payed for the Spring to attend here.

If that was the case it makes no sense. Why would he leave Miami a semester early? It would be completely unfair to make him pay for a year and a half...

Here's something I found interesting from the GVX article....

That means, according to rule, that once he leaves Miami AND is not under scholarship with them anymore he would have to pay for school for a year, not six months. Maybe Larry can help me out with this in the morning, he's good with understanding how these things work.

i think it is all year, not 6 months. he can't go on scholarship for 1 academic year IMO

That just makes no sense to me. I guess whoever wrote that article is wrong and Marve set out a semester for no reason whatsoever. And why would the "academic year" completely skip the "academic spring 09 semester?"

He sat out to try and decide on a school. That was the entire reason he did according to an article I read somewhere. I don't remember where it was though. :ermm:

that is how Brandon Warren got screwed over. he left in middle of year without release... ended up staying out a whole year... also, when he called UT to talk about transferring, they told him they couldn't talk to him until he got release from fsu

I am sure it has been asked many times but do you guys think if one of these QBs come it will cause problems with getting a top 2009 recruit? :shades:

I think he goes to Purdue, less pressure. I don't want him, Ill wait for Heaps or Scroggins, however; if we get him, i will still be happy just a little weary about the other qb prospects still wanting to come. Kiffin knows what he is doing.

Do you mean a 2010 recruit? The 2009 class is done (after the signing of Daniel Hood). I think that the only top QB it may hurt us with is Heaps, because it was possible that he could have come in and started Day 1...and doing that will seem like a much more uphill battle with Marve here. Maybe Heaps doesn't want that and it doesn't affect him, but it could. However, our chances are low with Heaps anyway most likely. And, none of the other QBs on our boards could really come in and start day 1, so I don't see Marve's decision impacting theirs (Scroggins, Hendrix, etc.) negatively.
